Strategy based MMO's

Was wondering if anyone knew of any MMO's that are strategy based, like Master of Orion, Galactic Civilizations, Civilization, etc... Not looking for playing these games over the internet but more of an MMO or larg playerbase style MMO. Also it should be limited to number of actions one can do in a day so that you might login once or twice or so a day and make your moves as opposed to waiting for a timer for each player to move in sequence.
Could be cleint download, web based, tick based, grid based etc... Comments, opinions, reviews of any good ones.

This would be difficult.
Strategy games by their very nature thrive off a balanced competition. But how do you achieve that balance when one person can be online for more than another, or one side can have more players than another?
By limiting a players actions, you are discouraging him from playing more, not a very attractive idea for any games designer.

The race doesn't always go to the swiftest, nor the battle to the strongest, but that's the way to bet.
I don't think it's exactly what you're looking for, and it isn't even out yet, but you might take a look at Atriarch. It's apparently supposed to have strategy and empire building, as well as some of the more traditional MMOG features. I hadn't really looked into it for quite some time, but your post made me think of it. It looks like they have a forum here, too.

Anyways... Try Starport: Galactic Empires... Might not be that MASSIVE. But it's 100% PvP strategy, at least if you choose to do that. Of cours ethere's an element of PvP combat but there are loads of players that venture in succefull EvE combat (Empire vs Empire) without ever firing a shot.

Web Based - TDZK.net Alot like EVE in a Browser/Text Atmosphere. TDZK came along well before EVE went into beta, but both are based off the same original game "Trade Wars".
What You May Be Looking for:
Client Based - Shattered Galaxy f2p w/ premium accounts although you can play quite well w/a free account. I've never paid, but I never really played for long periods of time. I think it's the best free game out. (I haven't tried Shadowbane) It's alot like a MMO Version of StarCraft.
