A few weeks ago, I bought Heavensward in anticipation of patch 3.3. My guildies have grown tired of other games, so we made the migration back to our original game: FFXIV. Let me just say, I really love this game, and have for a long time. But upon coming back I discovered I have to complete ALL the story quest in order to touch the Heavensward content.

This is a complete deal breaker.

As of now I'm on quest 23*/100 before Heavensward, and at this rate I'll never touch the content before my time expires. And now, because I paid for an expansion and time card I feel obligated to slog through all these ridiculous quest. This sucks. Had I known this, I never would have spent a dime.

So for those who aren't aware, or plan on returning like I did. Just know you might have a lot of story quest to do beforehand.

As someone who had to go through the content from 2.1 and on, i can only tell you it's worth it. I only play ffxiv for the story though, not for the endgame grind.

Though i look forward to the palace of the dead in 3.35.

As someone who truly enjoys the story and characters, I can not relate to you. IMHO the quests are totally worth it.

So plenty of content is bad now? Ok....

I agree with you... You should not have to be gated behind a story in order to play the new content... I mean eventually there gonna have to do something about it I know people who also wouldn't play because of that... There should be an option to let you skip up to HW.. Then everyone would be happy if you want to skip it then do it if not then don't.....

    Exactly.

People always whine that previous content is obsolete...the story FORCES people to go through previous content( I.E. dungeons, etc) to advance.

I slogged through it and by the time I got to Heavensward I felt burnt out played for about a week and gave up. It's a stupid amount of fetch quests with a mediocre story line that soon gets boring and click through. Over indulgent devs that think they know better.

I felt the same way. A daunting task to get through.

But then, when I started on it, I began to love it as it's one of the best story content in the game! Very dramatic (won't tell more not to spoil it).

I really liked 2.1 towards 3.0 and as such it went faster than I thought it would. Took me less than two weeks with moderate play time.

Sorry to hear bud, i had to go through all the content prior also. I watched reviews before i bought Heavenswod and those reviews let me know i had to do all those quests, so i was prepared when i got heavenswod and resubbed. Honestly its a bit lame, but FF14 is all about dat story dog

It seems to me as I read the OP's comment,  His argument was not over content.  He appeared concerned with time and/or money.  If this is the case, then his argument holds merit to me considering what he said.  If this is not the issue, then why rush through it.  Take your time and enjoy the journey.
  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member EpicPosts: 4,662
He has some merit but the game is all about the story so it's a bit funny (To not say something that might be deemed insulting) when you read people complain about it.

25-30+ hours of story line to get through is too much to get to Heavensward. There needs to be a balance and this is not.

    That's nothing.

If the OP needs more than a month to get through the 2.0 - 3.0 content and not willing to pay 10 bucks a month for Subscription, then Heavensward is not for him/her either.
He wouldn't even be able to get through the first zone then before the month runs out lol.

Seriously, People complain high and low in other MMO's for lack of content for years!
And FFXIV finally has content...... and people still complain. /shrug

Quality over quantity. They could have reduced so much of the mindless fetch quests and condensed the story. Your remark about "then Heavensward is not for him/her either." loses all credibility in your post. There where a huge amount of people that wanted to play Heavensward but didn't because of the the gated content taking too long but of course this game isn't for them according to you,

If they let you skip the forced dungeons / hardmode trials, then it would go a long way in reducing time required to get through that content gate.
it would easily reduce time down to less than 8 hours or so.

They should look into that for all the pre-Heavensward dungeons as the queue times are creeping up again, especially for DPS.

The game is heavily story driven, and the ending of the ARR story line is one of the best around. It is excellent.
Then the expansion picks it up and goes on.
Playing Heavensward without having experienced the ARR story would lessen the experience considerably.
Faced with dialogue which wouldn't mean much, if anything.  Npc discussions that would be lost on you.
If you've paid for the expansion, then surely you want to get the most out of it - and the story is a considerable part.

That's exactly what is it. They are sending me on quest across the map to talk to someone, then back again to deliver the message, and back again to talk. Its an endless loop of useless fetch quest that have no merit or substance.

Quests are not the only type of content ... I hate quests.
