The Matrix Online: Happy Anniversary

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

The Matrix Online, the MMORPG based on the wildly popular movie franchise, is celebrating its one year anniversary today! On Friday the 31st, the developers have promised that the celebrations will begin:

One year ago today, we first opened The Matrix Online to all players. In that time, we've seen everything from the death of Morpheus to a move to Sony Online Entertainment. If there's one truth to working on The Matrix Online, it's that there never seems to be a dull moment.

If you missed it, HCFrog went on a bit of a rampage on the External Playtest server yesterday; dropping Jack-O-Lanterns around the Slums and even a Complete Corrupted in the middle of Debir Court. It certainly got us thinking about where we've been since launch and where we're going in the future.

In one week, we begin a new era in The Matrix Online, as Combat Revision 2.0 becomes a reality. As with everything else in the game, it wouldn't be as good as it is without lots of help from the community. This may be a bit of professional pride on my part, but I believe we have the greatest community of players in any MMO. Thanks to all our players for being supportive and keeping us honest. You all rock!

I'd also like to take a moment to thank the dev team for being an outstanding group to work with. The Matrix Online runs on their blood, sweat, and tears--along with a good dose of laughter. And, as you can see on the forums, they genuinely like hanging out with and listening to our players. What more could a Community Relations Manager ask for?

On Friday, March 31, 2006, our First Year Anniversary Event begins. Our gift to you: A little Piece of Blue Sky. Be there to find out what it's all about.

    They killed Morpheus?! Not cool!

I wonder how the game as a whole is doing. A Matrix mmorpg definetly seemed very promising back in 2004 when I heard about it and I would think have a lot of fans. Yet, since it's release I haven't heard much, if anything from this title.

    Maybe it's just me.

If it wasn't for SOE stepping in to try and save the game it would have been dead 5 months after release.  We've all seen how well SOE handles games ie. SWG so don't expect much from MxO.

From all reports im getting of CR2.0 its a Great change to what we have. Its not changing it like SWG its actually sounds ALOT better then what we have and thats from players who are actually testing it not SOE.

Right now MxO is living off the comunity and the storyline not the actually gameplay and while I do like it the only thing really keeping me around is the Wicked comunity I am looking forward to the combat changes as they sound great.

But we'll see and Its Wicked that SOE bought it, its better then it dieing for those of us that enjoy it and to those that don't I dont really care.

I totally agree with the community comments. I still have my MxO account, but have been primarily playing WoW. I've played a few other MMO's, and the MxO community is leaps and bounds the best MMO community I've experienced. I defeinitely agree with Sift. People stay onboard for community, RP, and storyline. The great playerbase is the only reason I've been reluctant to cancel my account.

This game is starting to sound more and more like Star Wars galaxies. hahah image

They are following the same timetable: One year later after lauch BANG!! Combat Upgrade!! and then SWG started the spiral down to hell. Sorry for all those true fans of MxO. I hope this time they do not break your game.

Don't worry about the Combat Revision 2.0. It is great, it fixes combat so much. I have tested it myself. Some things I got to point out.

    • The CR 2.0 was decided only a few months if not weeks after The Matrix Online was released so no this is not a SOE thing.
    • There are a number of people who are hating on the CR 2.0 because of the fact that they think this CR 2.0 was brought upon as by SOE, again which was not. But don't be fooled there is a good amount of people who don't like the new combat because of their own personal taste.
    • The MxO development team, etc. They are a good team. There is a large number of people who transfered from the old MxO team to the new one here at SOE so it is a bit diffrent from other SOE MMOs. (Points at Walrus image)

So anyways, The Matrix Online so far is headed in a good direction.
