Obviously, people dont know much about how third party programs work (which is great tbh), but after patches, they're usually 'broken' for a few days, till the new code is sorted. I'm sorry to anyone thinking that something that hasn't been cleared from the original client wont magically be shifted to the server unless EVERYONE redownloads the new client that was 'fixed.' Until PB does something about the client, those particular hacks wont go away.
When you update server code, making the old client not work anymore is basically a trivial thing to do. Instead, you have the user update the client to the new one to continue playing.

Exactly. I've never played a game that didn't force an update to play the game. You can't just choose to play an older version of a game lol.
That because a lot of things related to skill cd's etc were moved server side, not because of the useless ban wave (of free trial accounts..). That means they have opened pandora's box because the game wasnt built to have these things server side and so will likely incur a hideous amount of lag especially during node wars which i believe players are already experiencing.
That is the only way to prevent these hacks from happening. People, especially on this forum, have been calling for moving the skills to server side since it was discovered they were all client side.
I haven't noticed a performance hit.
I did suspect that the reason so many skills were client side was for performance in seige and node wars. But I guess the bad publicity from hacking got to be too much and they were just like F the performance hit, we can't have this happening anymore.
I think everyone agrees that these things needed to be server side but there is an expectation that there will be lag unless Pearl Abyss can work on mitigating that a bit. Other games seem to handle that fine, so hopefully PA can get there eventually as well. In other action combat games my biggest issue wasn't server lag but fps lag, which BDO won't have to meddle with, so they should be fine since server lag is an issue that can be addressed to an extent.
One major hack program was already updated and working with the latest patch (the one that rhymes with "Axe")
The other 2 are still down while they update the code (both of them work with current patch - here is what these 2 rhyme with - "Piper", "Twix")
So grats to Daum for at least stopping the hackers for a few days.
But did you expect anything different? This isn't new. As much as people get on Daum for their poorly coded client, The whole White hat / black hat hacker wars has been going on since before the internet. 1 side increases security, the other side defeats it, the 1st side increases again, the 2nd defeats it again and so it goes.

i mean if you actually make the abilities server side the problem is fixed... you let the community assume you made abilities server side and do nothing to correct said fact, that's just deceitful
oh and also... it's a poorly coded game that has these issues, there is a few games with combat systems like BDO that have combat server side, the reason it's not is because for koreans to have an account they have to provide their KSSN, if they hack they get banned technically they can't make another account (of course you can use a friends details etc...) but the penalties are a lot harsher.... this never translates well over to western markert
AA had the same issue, things being handled server side and it had tab target combat...
it's not the combat system it's the developers, the combat system would work fine with server side programming.. if the team doing it was even slightly talented.
Doesn't matter the company took too long didn't remove or shut down the items illegally gained, the damage is done (Calls for full reset of the game.)
The players who bought items illegally obtained by these players ruins the game.
This is good news but I do want to know if they removed all the duped items ? all the money and items from hacking ? Not heard much about accounts being banned.
Allegedly they did some kind of... band-aid fix or something that isn't true server side checking from what I read from several places. If that's the case, this hacking fix might only be temporary.
Still kinda funny how lots of hackers probably got banned over it initially though. I guess turning on the hack programs right after the game gets updated but before the hack developers can investigate exactly what got updated wasn't a very good idea.

That's not what I am saying. I'm saying if Daum had announced they were patching the game in this way. I'd have said "Yeah and in a week from the patch the hacks will have updated their software to match too. It is not a new cycle. And I don't necessarily blame Daum for this.
The question is, are they (no) and should they be (probably) committed to running this race against the hackers always getting a leg up?

But honestly, I know it's easier said than done.
What makes you think they're not committed to the race?
Even if they aren't, making skills serverside makes a world of difference in how easy it is to hack. So even if this is the only thing they do, it makes hacking significantly harder for the rest of the game's lifespan.
Yeah because there are so many other options for people that dont want to play a linear quest hub themepark........
Nice to see PA doing something with their game. I still think Daum is a second rate company which appears to be wildly under staffed. But this is a step in the right direction. Now to see what Valencia brings.

Do you understand what a commitment is? you say that that, but in truth, you are saying "I really hope they are committed." You don't just patch one release and say "Yep, we're committed." If this is bypassed in a day or two and the hackers are back in business as usual, and BDO pretends it's not happening for months on end, it's not a commitment. It's a publicity stunt. But if the hackers update, and BDO updates, and the hackers update again, and BDO updates again, so on and so forth. I'll agree they are committed.
I haven't see a hacker in long time......Even Red Battlefield is fun now (close matches leaving everyone to say GG at end). Node Wars was fun as well. I am very happy the direction things are going now.
Here we go again, posters throwing around the "hate" and "haters" word. Nothing wrong with criticizing a game, especially one like this that has had mountains of problems. Personally I would like Daum to succeed with the game, but with their ineptness so far things have not been looking very good.
Personally, the fun factor has left for me. If they ever add some form of a end game I might pick it up again.
I logged in today and the bots are still everywhere.

Uh, yeah I understand what commitment is...
You said they're not committed. How do you know that or why would you assume that?
I'm not saying they are, but I'm also not assuming they aren't.
Current evidence however suggests they are, since they have done something about hacking for now.
I agree with many in this thread that continued efforts will have to be made, but it's extremely curious to follow up a successful effort with "they aren't committed to doing something about it." Maybe at least give the hackers a chance to develop new techniques before deciding that Daum will do nothing to stop those new techniques in the future?
Keep in mind, some MMOs never do anything about major hacking problems. BnS for example has had hacking for longer than BDO and still nothing done about it.
So yeah, doing something effectively is an indicator of commitment. It's surely not an indicator of not caring at all.
Left this hacker paradise game months ago. I'll believe it when I see it that the cooldowns and abilities and speed calculations went server side. Highly doubt it.
You said they're not committed. How do you know that or why would you assume that?

"Doing something about......." is not the same as "Being committed to....."
BDO Development has not proven they are committed against hackers yet. It takes more than once.

When did I say they're committed. The only one that made a definitive statement is you. You said they're not committed. I asked why you think that and you have yet to give an answer.

Yes, I know what words mean, stop being juvenile.
