Heh , i see some people say this...umm stuff... all the time.  If a game is considered good by the market, (the people that play games)  Then it will get played and be popular.

If it is like this one that  most people think it is an average or below average game, it is not popular, and so does not get many people playing it.

So it may be good to a few people...but that does not make it good. That is what happens.  The marketplace determines what is a "good game".  Does not matter what you or I ,or any single person, thinks of the game.

We can argue the point i guess...but the market has mostly spoken on this game...and it was not  good news.

If it's bad for most of the people won't make the game bad though, tons of players left the game because of the performance (incl. me), others for the difficulty, several reasons to quit even on a good game like Wildstar.
If market numbers is the only criteria for a game to be good thats fine, i guess we all should congratulate Blizz for leaving warcraft 14 months without new content, not a single dungeon, because hey, 5 million gamers still paying for this.

He that lives upon Hope dies farting.

I had played Wildstar off and on since launch. Played every class to about the mid teens, even managed to play an Esper to the mid 20s, but something kept me from continuing beyond that point. Whether the lack of RL friends who played, the insane amount of questing and horrible quest tracker, the insane aoe cluster-fuq of pvp BGs, or just the general hatred of the crafting system, there was always something that got under my skin and eventually allowed me to leave for other games.

When Wildstar went free to play, I decided to jump back in and give it another go. I decided I would re-roll a character, start over new, and try to enter it with a new outlook. I created a Stalker and really enjoyed myself up to about level 15 or so, again. Then I picked up a 2-man quest to kill some kind of mini-boss and just couldn't quite solo it by myself. I asked around for assistance, but there was never anyone around or many just ignored my calls for assistance for "a few minutes." I grew frustrated by not being able to kill the mini-boss and I went back to the drawing board. Was it my skills? My AMPs (talents)? What was the issue. After a lengthy period of time with my good friend google, I found that it was the class. The stalker for me, and apparently others, starts out great but slowly falls short if your sole purpose is to stick with pve. I opted to stick to pve because the nature of combat in Wildstar always led to the crazed insane cluster for pvp. For me, the pvp couldn't be fixed.

After a bit more research, I was convinced that the Warrior is more what I wanted and according to many, only gets better with each level.

Off I went, again, starting over with a new Warrior. I enjoyed it immensely and pushed into the 30s. The warrior is a damn powerhouse and with the right AMPs, is nearly unstoppable. I was half way through a 5-man dungeon, by myself, before I realized where I was. I kept thinking "Man, these things are tough." However, eventually my excitement dwindled, the quest grind is brutal and I, yet again, gave up on Wildstar. I moved on to others games for awhile.

Then the launch of Steam. I convinced myself that I could, at the very least, push to 50. "Hit cap level. You can do it. Give yourself a personal goal beyond just quest grinding." I logged in for the steam launch with renewed vigor and sure enough, as of yesterday 6/17, I hit level 50 with my Warrior. I even managed to queue for a few dungeons while I was leveling up. #1 dmg and #2 heals, nearly every time. I reached my goal, I was level 50. I even took a visit to the new Arcterra area to take a look, and while I could solo a few things in the area, it was rough for a brand new level 50 with an item level of about 47.

As I sat in Arcterra, reading the text that popped up on my screen to alert me of mini-bosses spawning throughout the region, I still couldn't bring myself to play anymore. I reached 50, I hit my goal, but there was literally no personal enticement to continue.

I still hate the insane amount of quest grinding, I still don't appreciate the quest tracker, the pvp is most assuredly still the same aoe mad-house, and crafting is still blah. Everything I didn't like about the game when it first came out is still roughly the same.

I wish Wildstar the best, but short of having several friends pick up the game, so I have someone to play with, I just don't see myself playing Wildstar ever again.

And here we are in 2016 with the launch on Steam. So what is next for Wildstar?

if Carbine considers the poor Steam influx a success then ding ding ding!, if not, shutdown is next.

that's pretty much the same experience i've had with the game.. except i didn't bother with the steam release and called it quits around lvl 45 or so when i realized that my preferred style(pvp) is never going to get any good so why bother?.

I had fun once, it was terrible.

Simplistic seems to be a common word here... Animation, sure. The game itself not so simple, it does have quite a challenge in the raid and dungeon content. More than most MMOs. Questing and leveling are easy as pie though and probably should be so, learning to play then stepping up to the challenge.

I'm retired from Wildstar, but dabble here and there. I just may, and only may, come back for Redmoon Terror. Bit burnt out on the Datascape. Been there, done that, got the achievements.

And here we are in 2016 with the launch on Steam. So what is next for Wildstar?

When looking at SteamCharts, I fear the worst for the game. While it's only been on Steam very short, there's already a trend showing the decline of the number of players. Compare last weekend's number of players with those this weekend and they're already about 15% lower. Same can been seen during last week that numbers over the week did decline a bit.

...but as said... it's only been on Steam for a short period and these numbers might have been people giving it a try. If at some point (next month?) the numbers stabilize, we can tell if the Steam launch was enough to keep the game going or that it was the actual last resort to get new players...

Maybe. A considerable number of steam players could be already active wildstar accounts from before steam trying the launcher differences etc or just moving to have a more social tie in with other steam friends etc.

Considering NCSoft's chopping block trends in the past, I don't see the game making it much further than the end of the year no matter the steam outcome.

I hope they get their population up,and manage to survive.

I'm not particularly enthusiastic right now.
I don't see what else I have to do in game as a old rank 50,besides the new zone, and that mandatory 3 factor verification they recently added is reason enough for me to not bother with the game atm.
I'll give it a go again in 6 months, wait for more content to roll out and the population to rise to more healthy numbers.

Right now it's a 50/50 chance for the game to either go into maintenance mode and milk players,or get proper further development.
Judging by their forums activity I don't see that big of an influx in players from the steam release, but who knows,it's been getting good reviews there and it might slowly start picking up numbers.

Even in the worst case scenario I don't see it shutting down before another 12 months at least.

One things that Wildstar have not did yet is post them self all over the front page yet on steam.  Not everyone Know wildstar. As it may drive new people to the game up for a bit more. Who knows but does help to be there for a few days.

    Console conversion.
Don't think they have money for that. Going to Console takes many man hours. Unless they push them self working with the steam controller or xbox controller for a start. Get step one out there way, but don't think they would do that with wildstar trying to gain people.

We can only tell after the honeymoon period is over, which in MMOs case is around 2-3 months after release.

I really enjoyed Wildstar, but I have to say the future of the game looks grim.  I stopped playing a little less than a year ago to play other games and just never came back.  I can't point to any one thing that failed to bring me back, because I really enjoyed my time with it.  -shrug-

I give wildstar alot of flack about stuff and rightfully so, because there is a hell of a lot of stuff that needs fixing or revising.

However, I have been playing since before the f2p conversion and it has been quite entertaining as well as challenging to play the content the game has to offer.

I honestly think it would be a shame for the game to shutdown because it's not a bad game content wise but its very unpopular for its difficulty and its other issues however, I couldn't suggest anything to change that as i have no idea how they can win the hearts and minds of potential players after all the changes they have already implemented.

Content for the most part has been "dumbed down", systems have been put in place to assist solo players ie: daily rewards and other bizzy work and the game is pretty much free now. There is nothing in the cash shop of any real tangabile or cosmetic value so worries about p2w there...

I really don't understand how there isnt a niche place in the market for wildstar to live and be profitable.
