imageRumor Squashed: Daniel Loehr On Paternity Leave, Not Fired

To anyone who might have heard a rumor that Black Desert Online Project Manager Daniel Loehr had been fired, please consider yourself disabused of the notion. We reached out to Daum EU's Rick van Beem about the rumor and were told that Daniel is a proud new father currently on paternity leave for a couple of months. While Daniel is away, an associate project manager has been appointed to keep things shipshape.

i thought only women would get "months" off work for maternity leave since, you know, they are the ones giving birth. Good to know it's equal opportunity lol.

Paternity leave is pretty standard in Western Europe.

In some countries it's enforced. It's paid of course. Family time is important.

Sometimes it's also just a matter of what your employer offers as a benefit.

    Doesn't exist in US - especially 2 months - that's extremely rare.
That's not true. While it's certainly not the norm, it has been gaining traction over the years.

Well grats to him for the new addition to his family. ... Oh wait that's something nice, not being a fan of BDO makes me a hater so I'm apparently not allowed to be nice. Uhm let's see ........ Ah! CURSES!! FOILED AGAIN!!!!! ... there that should do it.
Might I suggest "And I would have gotten away with it, too, if not for his meddling kid!"?

Yes. A lot of things that are common in the EU (Daum is from the netherlands) is not always also common in the US.

2 month paternity leave is not extremely rare in US?
Its extremely rare and only the mother can do something like that.  Then again it all depends on the job and company you are working for.  The father doesn't get as much time maybe a week or two at best is the norm.  But having other people raise your own children is normal nowadays in US.  So spit out that baby and give it to daycare and get back to work.

I better explain that before i get in trouble.  That seems to be the mentality from US.  That is not what I would desire for anyone.
Are you onto something or just on something?

It absolutely is the mentality of the family court system in the US. Unfortunately I've heard too many sad stories about this as of recent. Daycare wins to family care because it keeps the economy moving.
Happily playing Vanilla and BC WoW, again, since September 2016.

Canada gets paternal leave but the mother takes the first 17 weeks and the remaining 35 weeks can be split amongst both parents if they wish. Only get 55% of what you made last year but some employers have been known to top it up to 100%.

Not many men take the option though.

Can someone explain to me how a fired PM would have been relevant anyway?  Did people actually think the PM was fired because of game development/management issues?  Do people actually think a PM is calling the shots in any meaningful way?

US is way - i mean WAY behind Europe as far as time off work goes.

The total time off in US is 10 days + 6 holidays - that is what the vast majority of people working in US get.

    It's pathetic.
I'm so lucky to be working for a UK company. I have 5 weeks off not including holidays.

They also have Paternity leave but can't remember how long they offer.

They're actually a very small team, it seems.

Indeed.  Even the military gives time off to both fathers and mothers. Anyone that works in corporate America has heard of this if not had it implemented in their company.  Those that actually work in a corporation that is, and not just mis-represent themselves.

"Who needs dedicated support and technical team when you can hire bunch of slobs and let them talk nonsense on forums while morons spend thousands in your game thinking this the greatest game in the history of gaming?"

    Seems like Daum EU motto.
