Day One of Head Start

imageDay One of Head Start

I’ve said before that Riders of Icarus from Nexon and WeMade is a solid, if standard, MMORPG. I’ve spent some more time with the game since it hit Open Beta Head Start, and I can’t help feeling that I’m starting to really enjoy myself. Read on for our early impressions of the “release build” for Nexon’s latest imported MMO.

    While mounted combat, especially aerial combat sounds interesting, having it in a theme park just seems so limiting and almost counter-productive to the strengths of such an idea. After checking out multiple "first impressions" feedback samples it's safe to say I'd rather just return to WoW for my first time in years for Legion. I'd get pretty much the same thing from it, with a bit more polish and a larger community.

    I can confirm, I did not buy head start and had beta access, and I just logged in and am making a character.

    It's been fun trying to get to the point of starting our guild. There are some annoyances thus far. I've had issues where I log in using Action Mode and my cursor is stuck in "target mode". I usually flip the game settings to "Standard Mode" -> "Action Mode" to get out of that. I also have issue that in Action Mode I need to tilt the camera to get the "F" key guide to come up for a chat target. And of course the chat filter issue was killer yesterday, which they supposedly patched last night.

    The weirdness of the prohibited names is troublesome. About half the names I tried to make (which were perfectly acceptable in other MMOs and probably even in polite company), were rejected.

    Yeah a few bugs from beta seem to have made their way into head start, but my main issue with the game has always been the pacing. Take a good while to get to say level 10 and solo questing for hours on end while not getting decent enough levels per time early on would put alot of people off.

    Well, there are only 25 levels in the game right now. 35 at the end of July. So, it should take a while just to get to 10.

    I can confirm too, I had beta access and did NOT buy an EA package and can still log in and create a character.

    I was running BDO in the background while playing and had zero issues. I would say it is fixed.

    Game has been a pleasant surprise for me. Very fun and can enjoy it casual. Pretty for how technically old it is.

    Took 3 hours play to get to level 10 .First tier crafting is completely waisted. You can't craft til 10 and the first gear you make is level 8 . Teir 2 is level 20...

    Current games;
    Star treck online
    Rift
    Eve online
    Firefall

    That makes no sense though you like the game, but it can't get any worse? That means you like something you dont think is good at all.

    Honeymoon period exists even for bad games a lot of the time, really.  In my own experience, playing a new game that's terrible is often more fun than playing an old game that's great for the hundredth time.  The fact that so many games are purposefully frontloaded (unless you're just there for the raids, which are almost always at the back) helps, I suppose.

    Took me 2 x 4 hour play sessions to get to level 20. Crafting is completely useless teir 1-2.

    Lots of filler items to weigh you down so you have to buy bag space.

    42 or so critters to capture ok mount system for mounted combat the laggy combat gets in the way though reasonably enjoyable but story is the usual mmo nonsense not up to par compared to Rift or Lotro story writing.

    Games a 7.5 out of 10 lots of good ideas but fails to execute.

    Games pretty to play if you have a half decent Rig.

    Graphics. 8/10
    Audio. 7/10
    Gameplay 8/10
    Storyline 6.5/10 very generic
    Replays 6.5 / 10
    Crafting 7 / 10

    I now have 3 toons 2 level 25 one level 20.

    Current games;
    Star treck online
    Rift
    Eve online
    Firefall
