Well, since Smed made it clear that SWG was no longer "Hard Core", which apparently means no depth, what is the next good one? I mean, for those of us who loved the in-depth character system, sandbox style of game, what's out there? I loved the crafting system in SWG even if it didn't appeal to me enough personally to engage in it, I thought the concept was awesome. Is there any games on the horizon, or any that are out now that will provide the same depth that SWG supplied us with?
The Biggie for me is the leveling. I loved SWG because my first MMO was UO and I loved the character level design they had. The 700 sp to allocate to a myriad of skills. No combat levels, no extra health as you leveled up, simply a set of skills that you chose in order to make whatever template you wanted and your toon was as powerful as your imagination allowed. That was such a great system, and to be honest I can't believe it didn't become the standard for MMO's after it. I mean, wasn't UO one of if not the first MMORPG? And it's still going strong?
Anyway, I fell in love with SWG because they took that idea and made it even better. Are there any other games with that type of character development? The only MMO's I've ever played are UO forever, SWG for two years and I just started Guild Wars but I'm not too impressed. Are we trapped in this linear combat level world of MMO's? I even resubbed with UO when the NGE hit SWG lol. But my toons were wiped and I just couldn't get immersed in Britania again. So if there's a good system like I'm talking someone let me know.

I was led to believe EvE is ship based game? As in, you don't really have an avatar, but a ship that you fly around in? Is this true? And if so, does it work? I've thought about AO, and am gonna d/l the free trial when I get a chance. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, your ship is really your avatar in Eve. I have been playing it since December. Its skills based, but you earn skills over time, not by the deeds that you do.
Next "hard core" game looks to be Roma Victor...maybe Age of Conan after that, though Im thinking Roma Victor will be "harder"...
It looks to be skill based and alot of the skills you can use will NOT be combat oriented...IE you can focus on farming and becoming a rich merchant that can hire Mercs and dabble in the nasty politics of the times(at least as far as I can tell) check out roma-victor.com...
dowside is the graphics are not as "pretty" as other newer games coming out, but I can take a hit in that department as long as the gameplay is deep..(I still play Fallout 2 for fun...so....)
