http://www.alistdaily.com/digital/superdata-mmo-moba-game-market-to-reach-20-billion/and I quote:
" As a result, that will put it at nearly $20 billion overall, mainly driven by increases in both MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games and collectible card titles (like
Hearthstone)."
"SuperData also reports that free-to-play games are heavily popular in this market, with six of the top-ten grossing games utilizing this format. All together, they make up 86 percent of total revenue for MMO"
"“Generally, more than a third of MMO gamers play a title for more than one-and-a-half years before quitting, so maximizing revenue from experienced players is critical”
"as 84 percent of those playing within thee first month are likely to make some form of purchase"
" “We have seen many subscription-based MMOs shifting to the free-to-play model, especially those that already had in-game purchasing opportunities.”
Also worth-noting on the graphics that a big majority, 70% of MMO players play more than 1 MMO simultaneously. So much for the theory that players want to stick to one single game.

I don't like F2P games -- I never have; I don't feel like I get anything out of the model. And I know a lot of MMORPG players feel the same way, provided that they think they're getting value out of a sub-based game. The key for a future developer is re-locate the alchemical formula for spinning gold out of cheese, and profit. Blizzard wadded up and swallowed the last printed copy back around 2008, but I'm pretty certain somebody will stumble onto it again in the future... although I know where they need to start: NOT BY COPYING SOME ALREADY SUCCESSFUL GAME, AND INSTEAD DOING THEIR OWN &*%$ THING.
""By the end of the year free to play players will make up 93% of Multiplayer Online Game players.""
Or perhaps of online game players. One thing is for sure is that they are not talking about MMORPGs as Superdata would not recognize one if it came up and bit them.
Does this mean you will finally be happy?

1) Superdata doesn't know what an MMO is, so all their figures are meaningless when being used to assess the MMO market
2) Of course F2P revenue is massively higher than P2P - this is because the vast majority of online games are now F2P so players don't have a choice. This makes the stat completely meaningless with regards to assessing how good / popular F2P is.
Try harder
how long until we can get some single player games on that list, I mean maybe we can squeeze Angry Birds into the definition of an MMO. I mean it's Massively played, I'm sure Multiple Players are playing it at the same time so it's Multiplayer and you have to download it from Online. What do you know, it IS an MMO.
"That's a really cool feature, Lord British, but I'm afraid we'll have to cut it because we can't think of a way to monetize it effectively..."

This is the best time to make my point on statistics.
If you have 93% Free-to-play games, you will have to have 93% of the player base....No Choices.
Having 10.000 people in a lobby unfortunately doesn't constitute gameplay by any standard and as such is dumb to consider them as MMO.

Based on this scientific approach I can report that after recording the cat's behaviour and putting the results into an equation I made up, adjusting for what I think the cat should have done and then extrapolating the cats behaviour to all other countries in the world that:
the number of cats that hunt in the wild is bigger than the retail cat food market. And that cats will try more than one brand of food.
