Devs have been making game changes for a long time. You would think by now it would be routine.

After installing Rift which i still have my original account & characters i started a new character played a bit but couldn't get back into it at all. i tried out wildstar for the first time last weekend played up to the almost lvl 10 but have had no urge to get back into that game either.
normally i have no problem getting back into a game even if i've been gone for awhile but then again this loss of interest could be because i've gotten older and have other things to focus on like PS4 gaming or gaming on Steam but aside from a handful of games on steam i don't feel like getting into many other games i own for one reason or another.
has anyone else had this issue where their heart just isn't into certain mmo games anymore ?
Look at it this way. You must be still interested in them because you are on mmo forums reading and posting. If you were really over them, you wouldn't do that. Unless you had nothing else going on in your life. Which is ok.

yup, played rift, also played guildwars 2 and did all the solo quests, reached lvl 60 (or is it 50), grabbed all teh collection and do tasks on each map. Never done a dungeon (ppl dont take players that have never done them before) they ask you tell them they boot you. Only thing i did was world raids but those got mighty boring mighty fast.
Not bothered logging in for months, not updated game in that time either, actually thinking of uninstalling GW2 now anyways.
Rift not sure about but as said not been in for months, same with defiance. devilian, this was a dissapointment. I have not bothered reinstallign WoW either and not played since the 2mths into warlords expansion released. ESO i kinda may play this but will more than likely start a new character, but would need to find others to group and team with, on the US server.
Archeage was a money grind, you need to use the item shop on a weekly basis as well as path the monthly sub to get the best out it, fuck that.
There are probably quite a few others AoC, PoE, NWO, SWToR, Aion to name just a few. Nothing right now interests me as all of the games are stagnant and dull. Us e the exact same method as older games and you just have a feeling of been there done that why should i bother doing it all again with a diff name and a few graphic changes.
There is a VERY big picture out there to anyone that pays attention.
Remember how popular Wildstar was?Remember where that game was predominantly advertised?
A game mentioned by the author/OP.....>>RIFT,guess where that game was predominantly advertised?
See a common denominator here?
These games become popular through advertising, then the advertising site sucks it up,...kisses ass to get money for advertising,NOBODY is telling the truth, everyone is just trying to manipulate people into liking something to make a $$$.
I have learned it is far too much to ask for honesty in this world, everyone is just BS'ing the other if they see money.
Point???MOST of these games are NOT good and unless someone tells the truth, they will continue to think they have a good product right up top the minute they are laying off employees. So who is the recent "NEXT in line?" Wiz 101 KI another common spender here also seeing tons of kiss ass NEVER telling KI the truth about their game.
Of course it is quite possible that many are just not knowledgeable enough to see good from bad to mediocre, they just jump on the bandwagon like so many do.
The other problem is that MOST of these developers cannot afford changes or fixes, whatever they have done come end of budget is what gets sold no matter people tell them the truth or not.SO what happens at that point is a complete SELL JOB,eventually leaving tons of gamer's unhappy and leaving those games.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I'm almost there OP. The only thing i'm looking forward to, is a 12 year old mmo's expansion (WoW's Legion), and i'm not even excited about it. I might just take the plunge on Black Desert since there's nothing on the horizon.
What scares me the most is the time investment. If you quit a single player game and later come back to it, it's most certainly the same.
If you quit an ammo, you will feel behind d, you will feel that you missed out and are late to the party and that will inevitably put you off.
If you are playing the game because you want to keep up with the others, I think you are doing it wrong.
To be fair, mmos are an entirely different than other games. In an MMO, there's constant changes and events that are either temporary or removed. It's not really about keeping up with others. It's more about keeping up with the evolving nature of the game.
I'm in the same boat. I have played PC games all my life since I was 4 years old on a 386 playing wolf 3d and later doom. I'm at a point where I still love games and am desperately looking for one to play. I absolutely LOVE MMO's and I mean real MMO's not the cheap knock offs. I miss the group play the lvling the quests the crafting and most of all playing with other people I know its a crazy thing to say nowa days but its what made it fun for me and most others I would guess. We don't have any greats coming any more the MMOs are stale repeats at best or we get a hollow version of a RPG. I hope we get some news soon of a game that goes back to the basics and what a lot of us miss hell I would play SWG still if it were here today.
In the end you are not alone I have 400+ games on steam alone and I'm often not interested in any of them I find myself playing ESO on xboxone due to people still play it and actually talk to one another.
On the same boat... i´m just sooooo over those "go kill 50 rabbits" ...or those quests hubs...and leveling... I haven´t stoped playing games though...no way! I just bought a new GTX 1070 and i have to burn that up!!!! I´m not playing actively any MMO at the moment but i still check GW2 & TESO from time to time... I´m back to singleplayer or multiplayer games like DOOM4, Star Wars Bettlefront,Crysis 3, Path of Exile, Tomb Raider or Divinity Original Sin Enhanced... and I´m loving it!!!
I´ll probably give it another go to MMOS when Legion comes...or GW2 Season 3 kicks in! But not missing them much neither...
I´m more excited and awaiting "No Man´s Sky" that comes out in August than any proper MMORPG
Serious question to those that are at the point of "all interest lost in MMOs" - what has replaced your lost interest?
In other words - what new thing have you gained interest in?
Besides work, different interests and hobbies; video editing, graphic design, animation, art, scripting, etc, and also other things which involve outside.
There's just so many things to do in life besides playing mmos these days. I went from hardcore player to casual over the last several years. There's just no upcoming mmo that interests me, and if i had to choose, i'd probably pick Crowfall.
I'm starting to think I may be done with video games in general. More and more my hobbies are taking me away from the keyboard.
MMOs aren't very compelling anymore. I check this site and try new ones or revisit old ones more out of nostalgia now. Like most have lamented, the current crop of MMOs just aren't very immersive or interesting. They lack flavor. Or perhaps I've finally outgrown them.
Still, I like to think there will be one more MMO in the near future that grabbed me like they did in the past.

Not really "replaced", as I have always done these activities. Single player video games, video manipulation for gaming videos, I've gotten heavily back into reading again. One thing I have picked up recently is watching live D&D games on Twitch TV.
I'll get an itch for the MMO experience and log into one (EQ1, W101, STO, or the like) and find myself logging back out after less than an hour, itch still present.
I recently - over the past couple of weeks - leveled a WoW rogue from 1 to 100 - it's probably something like the fiftieth character I've 'capped out' (depending on the current max level) since the game launched. Today, I took her - over the expanse of 4 hours in Ashran - from 630 junk gear to 731 PvP IL. Could I grind further for a bit more of a boost? Sure. But why bother? Legion is only two months away, and I'm pretty sure I'm not even going to buy it.
My affection for these games wanes and waxes, but they don't have any kind of hold on my anymore like they used to. Upon a time, I could be gripped by these play-frenzies for stretches of months; now, I am lucky to get a couple of weeks out of a title before I'm bored to tears with it.
I think I may resub to EVE. At least with CCP's game, when you're cooked, you can stay subbed and keep earning skills. Moreover, it's played at a different kind of pace from other MMOs, where there's this constantly evolving gear/item curve that you MUST keep up with.
Not that it's hard to do that in WoW... especially not at the end of an expansion pack. But, then again, when I finished grabbing my third epic for the day, I kind of felt like I had 'beat' the game... which isn't where you ever want to be in this genre.
Serious question to those that are at the point of "all interest lost in MMOs" - what has replaced your lost interest?

I switched to singleplayer games, reading more frequently again, started playing bridge where we managed to qualify for the national championship for beginners that happens next month.

Can I ask a personal question: How old are you?
I'm hitting 30 this year and find that I used to play everything. Literally everything. Portable games, console games, PC etc.
Now my consoles collect dust and I only really play FFXIV and the odd single player game. It's not that there aren't any games I want to play - there's ton. I just don't have time and when I do have time I'd rather progress in FFXIV or hang out with friends/family/irl stuff.
Time is definitely a relevant factor for me as well.
I used to have tons of spare time, and because of that - I felt less pressure to progress or "achieve" something when sitting down to play. That kind of relaxed mindset, I find, is necessary before I can get comfortable and dedicate myself to a game.
These days, I have too many obligations - and I almost never have the kind of time I feel is needed.
As such, my interest has naturally dwindled. Oh, I still love games - and I can't just stop caring about what's coming and what's happening in general.
But, sadly, I can't really get into it because of the time issue. Well, I can, but it's very rare.
I just watch youtube videos of game reviews and lets play series these days more than anything else as I think I've been at that stage of outgrown MMORPGs for afew years now. Hard to find anything else MMORPG related to do since the offerings are very poor these days.
After installing Rift which i still have my original account & characters i started a new character played a bit but couldn't get back into it at all. i tried out wildstar for the first time last weekend played up to the almost lvl 10 but have had no urge to get back into that game either.

I still have a little interest in MMO games but every one i try to play it just falls flat for me and i just quit, its frigging annoying theres nothing to motivate me to play like there used to be.

Being interested in TALKING about MMOs is not the same as playing them, is it? Plenty here have fun ranting & complaining. May be that is the entertainment, not actually playing MMOs.

Stop insisting that everything in this industry is fine, or that everything just sucks. Neither case is entirely true.
But for you as an individual player, the alternatives are really very simple.
When it isn't fun for you stop doing it.
Writing, five books so far.
Plus, "fine" is just a matter of perspective. Things are fine for those who like modern MMOs, and the devs who are making money from them.
