I guess you mean that part where one of the developers of CoD:IW says that he loved Wing Commander and states that it was one of his personal inspirations for CoD:IW ? Timestamp 19:35.
Interesting that the "Major Tom" video ends exactly before that sentence as it does not fit his narrative.
And when the host calls the combination of FPS and space sim combat "new and unique" (no matter if its in CoD:IW or Star Citizen).

Been a politic in the answer didn't prevent him to come to the market and help to make the things to get stale for Star Citizen/Squadron 42. Just as Braben did. You know. Just these realities of the market which have more weight than whatever speech.
You have stated that you expect to have an Alpha up and going
in about 12 months, with a beta roughly 10 months after that and then
launch. For a game of this size and scope, do you think you can really
be done in the next two years?
Really it is all about constant iteration from launch. The whole idea
is to be constantly updating. It isn’t like the old days where you had
to have everything and the kitchen sink in at launch because you weren’t
going to come back to it for awhile. We’re already one year in -
another two years puts us at 3 total which is ideal. Any more and things
would begin to get stale. - Chris Roberts
Stale ? All these games push each other to new heights.
I welcome the friendly competition between these developer teams as it makes each of these games better.
3 years was highly optimistic and large parts of the community and journalists already said so in Nov 2012 at the end of the Kickstarter campaign. 5 years was often named as the more realistic number for a AAA game. Which would put us at Nov 2017 ..... a date that i personally would call realistic.
