imageNeed a Job? Blizzard Hiring Diablo Series Game Director

It seems that this year's Blizzcon may have some good news for fans of the Diablo series with the new job posting on the corporate site that seeks a Game Director. The project is considered an "unannounced project - Diablo. It is fascinating, however, to wonder where the current(?) Diablo 3 game director, Josh Mosqueira, is and whether or not he's still with the company.

UPDATE: Blizzard reps have confirmed with Venture Beat that Josh Mosqueira has left Blizzard as of today and the job posting is to secure his replacement.

“With Diablo III in a good place at this point, Josh [Mosqueira] felt that now was a good time to pursue other opportunities with minimal impact to the team. We’ll be filling the director role either from within Blizzard or externally.

Josh made many contributions during his time here, and we loved working with him. We wish him all the best and look forward to his future work.

I wish having a PhD in physiology somehow fit the criteria for this job...

I can't wait for the ARK clone using assets from whatever this game would have been if they didn't cancel it in around 5 years.

Um...Diablo's never been cancelled. This is a Game Director for a Diablo game.

Diablo is the only Blizzard game I care about and I hope they do the right thing in the next one, first giving proper dark graphics-aesthetics to the next game instead that top-down WoW which is D3.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

Regardless what it will be. We already know that it will take 10+ years of development hell and will probably come out with outdated graphics. But as long as it has proper diablo aesthetics instead of Disney's I'm ok with it.

I don't think a Diablo MMO is likely. Overwatch was just released, and is the result of the last attempt to create an MMO. Diablo 4? Also unlikely. Blizzard more or less takes turns with their IPs.

So, whoever's gonna get that job may well work on a Diablo MMO or Diablo 4, but i don't think thats the next thing we are gonna see of Diablo.

Which is kinda sad, given that it might finally make them discontinue WoW, and free the franchise for Warcraft IV.

I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high
And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll
Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde
And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore

Yeah, I think I'll pass. I get the sensation from speaking with employees that Blizzard is a really terrible place to work - kind of like the Google of game development companies.

If it follows suit for the industry, it'll be hiring someone who is old, washed up, and known for what they did at the height of their success, while neglecting everything they have done/been a part of since.

Tis the nature of Game Directors.

Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

They really need to work on D4. I'm not a graphics monkey by any means but when I sparked up Diablo 3 recently it felt so painfully dated, moreso than even WoW for some reason. It's graphics are just aging so poorly it feels like a waste of time to develop any further.

Seeing as how Blizzard has covered a majority of the genres out there I would say with almost a 100% certainty that the next Diablo game will be Diablo's PGA Tour 17 or Diablo Hoops 3 on 3. Just model your game after EA Sports, give the athletes ultimate abilties and BOOM 10 million copies sold.

I have a feeling that Blizzard won't do a New MMO for long time. Comes down to cost, time and trying sell a MMO that have a very high chance of failing in this market as a MMO.

I don't have 5 years of video game director experience, but I have 15 years of experience with Blizzard games. Maybe they need a player to direct their new title, because when they took advice from the community with reaper of souls, it was actually playable.

That would be a great step back to "gamers making games for gamers" what was once Blizzard's premise.
They also did what you said when they hired Kaplan as a former EQ raider.

So, i wouldn't mind if they hire you!

I honestly do not understand, how hard it is for them to actually listen to the fans.
There have been so many great suggestions on all the games they made, hearthstone in particular for example.
Their last 2 card pack expansion have been a dull fest with nice theme to it. While on the fan sites, some of the most amazing and fun things have been proposed and visualised as concepts.
If you don't make the games for the players to enjoy, who do you make them for?

Or Moba/arpg mix for Mobile ?. Titan quest did it, so it is possible for an arpg.
    Speculations are always fun.

Yeah, I need a job. Time to apply for a director at Blizzard / Google / Microsoft...owait!

It doesn't work like that! You need to have connections of a Trump to score this out of a blue sky.

Pointless clickbait is pointless(as am I for falling for it).

    You already fell for it.3

lol it's about time, if they can manage to get ex Bliz North back in to the mix that are currently working on the Torchlight MMO, they could actually make the best action hack N slash MMO on the market. D3 is crap, no point on releasing any new xpac, yes the very fanbois will buy a D3 xpac, but Blizzard will be at a lost to even waste time on doing any more "patch up" on D3. It was a epic failure since day 1 and it's time to move on to another adventure with D4. Which won't happen until 2018-19, so in the mean time we'll have Lost Ark to keep us busy in 2017, and the new Legend of Zelda in 2017 also. :D

I think I'll instead focus on running for president. I heard that they make around $250k per yet, yet end up multi-millionaires at the end of their term. Not bad!
  • UltorXUltorX Member UncommonPosts: 56
I wish they'd switch their writers so often. Or at least artists.
And while we're at it bring back everyone from the D2 era.

What Blizzard needs is better writers. Their stories lately in all of their games have been giant, predictable snooze-fests.
