Well it seems that the current president of codemasters is seeing a lot of potential in the world of mmorpgs but seriously, porting over old Korean games is just stupid and I hope they don't do anymore after archlord.
I remember with RFO, I saw a trailer which made the game look well awesome and then I went to their website to find out more information and couldn't find anything what so ever. Most of the website wasn't even completed and you couldn't find any information regarding the game what so ever. Now after looking up loads of fansites and on the forums, it seemed that many people were like me and greatly anticpated this game until the preorders people tried the beta... then it showed that codemasters put about as much work in porting the game over, as they do in their websites, overall POOR. The game then came to launch with them probably licking their lips expecting a huge load of cash thanks to their fairly gimmicky advertising but well, i'm sure half their fanbase originally have left and the game gets criticised daily. This is only saved by die hard mech fans who will also probably leave in a few months once they realise the endgame is the same thing over and over again.
Now we have Archlord... saw a trailer and was thinking the game was awesome, went to look for info on the official website and the exaxt same thing, completely and utterly nothing on the races, player skills etc etc. You really would have thought that a game being ported over from Korea, would feature a lot more information than most sites. So this has left me with the same conclusion as with RFO, they aren't putting any information up because quite frankly, the game doesn't have enough meat in it to make some detailed information. I predict the exact same thing will happend with this game apart from it won't even have the same fanbase RFO got.
In conlusion, I hope codemasters learn their lesson and stay away from doing awful ports of popular Korean games.

you seem to be confused, the modus operandi of MMORPGs IS reptition.
The end game in pretty much every MMORPG involves the same thing over and over again..
WoW - endless instance farming for example.
What makes the experience fun and rewarding however is freedom and variety and this can only come from interactions with other players (PvP imo).
I'm sick to death of all the endles item farming games and WoW clones, bring on the Korean innovation please.
judging a game on BETA (TEST!) phase, priceless
Shortly after release, a new patch was released which fixed most (if not all) translation issues.the game has been more suited for the west without losing its challenging long grind. the game is now succesfully ported. codemasters did a good job, its the mmorpg community that fails to realise this is not a game where you cap in a month or two. endgame always the same? has there ever been an mmorpg (if it has an endgame) that does not have this? at least RFO's endgame is based on pvp so its still repetive, but not as bad as when it was pve based aka EQ/WOW style. not to mention nobody ever got to RFO's endgame yet.besides in the latest newletter, codemasters confirmed that CCR is already working on a load of content for higher lvl's. and the half fanbase that originaly left were wow fanbois who expected another western game. ofcourse they are dissapointed, this game has been ported for fans of korean games, not for 2-weeks-capped- Wow players.
sure the game gets criticised every day, because the mmorpg community does even more whining then people who follow politics. this isn't good, that isn't good, this is crap, that is crap, this is too hardcore, that is too carebear. lets face it, most mmorpg players will never be statisfied. about every game gets bashed to oblivion. no wonder mmorpg developers rather aim at new players to the mmorpg genre then oldskool. as long as it doesn't have "Ultima" in it, then they wont be happy.
RF Online seems pretty populair. its not a huge cashbreaker, but its definitly enough to make a nice profit of. sure I agree the websites are done poorly. tough Archlord is far from even closed beta yet. its really not fair to judge it already. it finally has a system that other mmorpgs don't have and its already being bashed.
western mmo's are the same, except you have to return to an npc once in a while.
The idea of this thread was honestly criticising CMs terrible business practices...well they are actually very good but it's basically a case of a few flashy gimmicks and utterly failing to deliver. I don't want to turn this into a RFO hate thread, as there are many of these around. I also don't think most of the people who originally liked RFO, were judging it on the translation problems but more so on the actual depth of the game. If you enjoy the game, good for you and I hope you can spend years on it and enjoy every moment but i'm just saying that i'm fed up with CMs methods of promoting their games... spend all their time making fancy movies but never complete their websites. With RFO, they actually gave out sod all details on the ingame stuff and just talked about these fantastic chip wars. If it wasn't for fansites and some extremely helpful people, we would have went intot he beta/ final product with a WTF feeling and wondering what to do. Archlord seems to be following suite and it really shouldn't be acceptable.

To an extent yes but the xp rewards for going back to the npc and the variety of the creatures you have to kill and the size of the gaming worlds, usually means it stays fresh and never feels like a grind.
I agree with top poster. RFO is a complete disaster to be honest.
And to you who talked about WoW clones...Theres hardly been any MMOs worth mentioning out after the wave of MxO (which was before WoW), CoV, and Wow itself, so I dont see your point in that.
