DMKano name 5 games you haven't played. If that's too hard just name 1 or 2...

One of my favorite MMOs of all time. Oh well, nothing good lasts forever.

Probably just my as my Windows just does what it wants whenever it wants, but I can't see a video to press start. Just a space.

A grand game, setting the formula for MMOFPS. Perhaps 'MMOFPS Battle' would be a more apt title, its successor PS2 in its own way as great a game, just don't expect the same game.

I am a hardcore video game junkie - so as far as MMOs go, I played all the major ones.

The only major one that comes to mind that I never played is Granado Espada Online.

This is fighting talk! Outside you two, square of, three rounds consisting of who dies first in PS2, Dark Souls (random number) and BF (random number) :D

Nothing wrong with being hardcore but you also abide by the same laws of physics and only have 24 hours in a day.

So between work and family I barely find time for 1 game here and there I think someone has discovered how to manipulate time and not telling :)

Lol if he played them as they came out he wouldn't be that time pressed

Planetside 1 was my all time favorite game. I spent a lot of time there for years.

I wasn't on for the final moments, but I played for a while that last day. There were some really fun fights going on on Ishundar.

I don't know if it was planned or not, but those 3 bases: Girru, Hanish and Irkalla were perfect.

    Maybe psforever will work out...

I missed this? Damnit! Seeing this headline actually gave me chills and flashbacks of all the good times.

High five for sling shotting ANTs across the maps!

Hail to the BoB-J Outfit. Good times. One of my favourite games, and most played with well over 5000 hours of game play across 9 years.

Makes me sad. Loved that game.

i think 13 years is an acceptable age for a MMO, maybe games like WoW will continue to survive for 20 years, but it's indeed sad to see one good title closing again

i was so devastated when Vanguard was announced they would be closing down, i know how these guys feel!

    So What Now?

At least in PS1, MAX suits were actually useful, not to mention you had MECHs as well. I love how game developers actually go backwards in innovation when making sequels. As DMKano said, EQ2 was a shell of what EQ1 was and I have to agree.
EQ2 was not a shell of what EQ1 was and it didnt go backwards in innovation.  It was just a completely different game.  Which makes sense, because at the time EQ1 was the top MMORPG.  The goal is to capture a new audience, not shift your audience from one game to the other.

Now would be a good time for a Norrath game that *is* similar to EQ1, as the market is over saturated with theme parks and action MMORPG but obviously that is not going to happen.  Maybe if SoE didnt try to be innovative with EQN and instead made EQ 2.0 then they would still be around.

Take a look at active games have done.  Simplified talent trees for example.  SWTOR and WOW have done that.  WOW has less skills than before.  On the Legion test server, some buffs have been removed.  Over the years you have heard stories from players who love buffing other characters in game. Highlighted Example:  swg entertainers.

The industry is removing variables to make it easier for the devs.

    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.

Kano's shared his secret before... it's... spreadsheets! :dizzy:

That and mindlessly clicking through all text and cut scenes to focus on racing to max level ASAP. xD

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Oh Planetside. What a great game, it felt like a promise of great games and MMO's to come. It felt like a game saying that gaming possibilities were endless. 13 years later and it doesn't feel like we've come too terribly far

This was a really fun game. And I really do think PS2 is really good as well. I think it had a barrier to play based on the high end graphics required to run it, so a lot of people complained about performance (which a lot of people don't understand is typically directly connected to the hardware they're trying to run it on). But the constant, ongoing game and action make for some really fun times.

And you can't talk about either game without mentioning the excellent community. The players tend to be cooperative, positive, and overall mature. You can't say that about a lot of MMO's, with the increased focus on PvP in some of the more recent games. Communities cultivated on griefing and bad manners have taken more of a front seat.

I had actually stopped gaming, due to my camping/fishing habits in real life. I was on the lake camping out when this went down. I did not actually find out about it till a few months ago. I almost cried when I heard. This was By Far! My favorite online game! All, the best good times I had in that game, it was so much fun! It makes me sad just typing this now. But, also happy, because I am remembering all the good times I had. I even noticed a few or your names that replied. We had awesome times in those days didn't we? Planetside, go rest high on that mountain. You will be sorely missed my friend.
