Hmmm, we can wear full crafted gear in legion and not be limited to 3 like in WoD?
  • DeltoisDeltois Member UncommonPosts: 384

Yes that is correct, they put that out in one of the previous Developer talks, so as of now, you can wear all your own gear, I think the main part of the talk was what ilevel crafted gear would be compared to raid gear..

Forget fun for a second, did they give up trying to make it useful? It does seem silly to put an armor crafting profession in a game where none of the Armor is crafted.

Crafted Armor can be upgraded with BoA Blood of Sargeras up to the equvulant of Normal Raid Level Gear (better than LFR but not as good as Mythic Raid Gear), so yes. Important and useful.

I've never played WoW but this write-up got me fairly interested to give it a whirl, may part with some cash..

Sounds totally boring, and time consuming to me. Just another thing to do to waste your time, when you have nothing better to do.

What does not sound boring and like a waste of time to you? I'm just curious as to what your comparing this too.

Yeah, it would take a minor act of God to pull me back into WoW at this point. I am certainly not buying Legion, and it seems fairly likely that I will never play again.

This is seriously looking like they took the quest system from FFXIV for crafters/gatherers and just stuffed it right into WoW. Whether or not this is a bad thing remains to be seen until we get our hands on it.

Is that not the point of every video game? A nice enjoyable way to waste your time? Thanks for the article. Lots of good news in there!

If you ask me they need to change crafting and gathering from the bottom. They need to make every gathered item, every crafted item, every drop item necessary even at end game. For example : we start by mining iron, they need to make sure iron is necessary even at end game crafting and it is not just a way to level up the mining. For crafted items, they have to change it so that starting crafted items are required to craft next round of crafted items and next one for the next one after that and so on. For dungeon/raid drops, they need to make sure these items even if they are from low level dungeons can be upgraded through crafting and/or questing. Make everything on world useful on every level, that way world will not feel empty ever.

I just wish my Paladin had Blacksmithing/Mining instead of Jewelcrafting/Mining.

How hard is it to level up a profession these days?

I think his point that it wasn't enjoyable. Also while gaming is technically wasting time, many of us like to not only enjoy what we are doing but also feel like we are making some sort of progress in our play time. Boring repetitive tasks with poor rewards vs time invested generally aren't much fun. Professions in general suffer from the problem that gear in general is very easy to get in WoW, not to mention more often than not faster than leveling up the professions and getting the mats.

So the professions are only changing at the top level? They seriously need to overhaul the whole thing from the very beginning.

I think they have mentioned this. Ian even pointed out in a few interviews that they know some of the early content hasn't seen much love since the last restructure which was Cataclysm. He stated that they would love to be able to go back and give some QoL updates with the whole leveling experience in general. But of course, the time of the interview, Blizzard has been dumping their WoW resources into making Legion a great game, so its understandable on why they haven't been able to do anything about that. Perhaps in the expansion after this, or in some patches or so several months or a year after Legion release, they may have the resources available to actually take a hard look at some of the early content and update it. They have a couple competitors that do the leveling portion of the game real well (SWTOR/ESO) so I imagine they have some great ideas to draw from. However, I would not expect it to be a complete and utter overhaul of crafting, as this would probably piss off more people than help, as many have sunk years of work into their current crafting. It's the age old argument, that perhaps a successor to WoW has a superior crafting system, but they had the luxury of starting fresh without a committed player base and could learn and improve upon the systems that exist. There's no doubt there are better crafting games (ESO/BDO) and expecting WoW to overturn all their previous renditions of crafting to compete is actually silly. If crafting is your main thing, than perhaps WoW just isn't for you. I think some small improvements are needed to keep crafting relevant at the highest level, and keeping the lower levels a progression system, means to an end in other words, is perfectly reasonable. Besides, better low level crafting systems still won't overcome the fact that most people level using heirlooms. If you need a better fantasy to go along with the progression crafting, just think of it as supplying the NPC war effort for your faction, and as you progress and your gear gets better so does the Horde(Alliance). But better end game, having a reason to do the grind in the first place, does certainly need a bit of a change, and based on this article, that is exactly what we are getting.

Already pre-ordered and waiting patiently. Pretty much have purchased every expansion on release to date, and no signs of stopping now, as Legion looks to be one of the best yet! Sorry, I'm a fanboy, and I feed the beast, but I have been riding this high since I saw the Warcraft movie and I can't help myself. I have played way more boring games in my extensive experience. I mean did you ever try to level through Aion or Lineage, THAT is waiting game incarnate right there. My only issue with the timing on Legion is that I am starting the Legendary Challenge in SWTOR, so most of my MMO time is going to be sucked up by that game for the next 2-4 months....

FYI answered my own question this weekend. Took about 20 minutes and a few thousand gold to go from 700 JC to 700 Blacksmithing.

Shame really - but I'm greatful. Hopefully the professions are more interesting and useful in Legion, because in MoP and WoD they were pretty worthless.
