With the launch of Legion, World of Warcraft players who are reported multiple times by others will be given an account-wide silence. The first offense after investigation by Blizzard will result in a 24-hour ban that doubles for each subsequent infraction. According to the site, this enables players to report those who are engaging in "inappropriate interactions on various channels".

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Perhaps. Maybe it's possible now because of some sub-system that had to be rewritten, new technology, or just back-end infrastructure and processes now in place. Being an Enterprise Software Developer things aren't always as straight-forward as they should/could be. :-(
I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high
And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll
Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde
And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore
Fixed that for you. I hate people that cannot type also.
Bartoni's Law definition: As an Internet discussion grows volatile, the probability of a comparison involving Donald Trump approaches 1.
No system like this has ever worked properly and is always abused by those its supposed to affect. Its like the team killer auto ban system in WoT.. its there to punish the players who are jerks. However it fails to work half the time and the players have figured out all they have to do is annoy you and anger you enough that you shoot them and YOU get banned.
Yeha not the same thing but its an example. Censorship has never worked in our society and will be challenged, subverted, and abused at every chance.
Blizzard needs to stop trying to be idiots controlling the player base and put effort into more important things.. like maybe creating quality content to save that wreck of a game called World of Warcraft.

Spam became a real issue with WotLK, that's when they should've done something like this.
Better late than never though.
