To celebrate Ubisoft's 30th anniversary, The Ubisoft Club is offering you seven digital PC games. Every month a new game will be revealed and free to download. Then it is yours to keep!
Hurry up, the game is available for a limited time. Just register here with your Uplay account.

Prince of Persia is currently available and the original SplinterCell will be available mid-July so says the scuttlebutt.

If you have to use UPlay, I'm not sure if "free" is cheap enough.

I don't understand the hate for Uplay myself.  I play a dozen Ubisoft games and I've never had a problem with Uplay.

Also, the original Splinter Cell is awesome.  For me, it's one of those turning point games that changed how I felt about gaming.  I'll be happy to own a digital copy of it.

As a person who uses a computer, I am against any company that installs root kits. They invariably make your system less secure. A game isn't worth giving nefarious people a door into my PC.

Agreed. Just about every developer has it's own ecosystem. I have no issues with Uplay.
I buy and play all the Far Cry games (my favorite single player shooter) AC:Syndicate not long ago and Splinter Cell: Blacklist which I run regular mission replays on for high scores. I earn Uplay points by playing the games through it and spend it on things for the games I like. I did this with Far Cry 3,4 and Primal as well as SC:BL
Uplay, to me, seems no worse than Steam,Origin, PSN, Xbox Live or any other countless ecosystems out there in gaming.

I feel the same way.  I wish that a single repository were an option purely for convenience sake, but I also realize that competing ecosystems is not a bad thing.  As much as I prefer Steam to all others, having the others is a good way to ensure they don't overstep their reach.

The Uplay disapproval around here is real
I find it annoying. People will slam a game on Steam because of Uplay DRM when Steam is pretty much the same thing. I think it's because most of them are pisssed cause they can't use their hacks and cheats with DRM games they have. Bunch of babies. I've never had any of the claimed issues with Uplay people say they have.

4-5 years ago it was deserved.  Uplay was installing a browser plugin that allowed remote users to use Uplay to start any application (not just the game) without the users consent.  Somebody even wrote proof of concept code to exploit the vulnerability.  Ubisoft patched it back in 2012 and claimed it was a bug and not done intentionally.  Whether players choose to believe that or not is up to them.

“There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.”
