People are stupid. Our entire society needs to reform and our kids should do it!

Do you agree that there is a big portion of uneducated stupid people who live among us??

Well I live in America and feel that this is true so what does this say to me when most people have graduated high school???

This tells me that our educational system is failing us..... and with all of this crime and homeless people, so has our rehabilitation solution and laws.

If you think that the show x-files has any truth you are most likely an idiot because in reality the government isn't watching for the most part, even though they can see you on google maps, and most of what they cover up is how crooked everything is.

The war on drugs is failing and people are being chased into our backyards because we have no red district, while encouraged to sell illegal goods since its easy money because its illegal and valuable.

No politician will address the core of these issues fast enough for votes to matter.... as of now, we are addressing our issues at a snails pace.

What better way than to look for what could possibly the smartest generation of humanity that has ever existed?

This is what we do.... stop teaching people to be sheep and follow orders.... yeah thats right... change the whole educational system!

Give kids a blank piece of paper and teach them how to teach themselves and they will end up smarter than the teachers! Teachers should stop teaching and instead provide tools for kids to teach themselves while having competitions for rewards with random groups to encourage teamwork, etc... and steer away from telling them what to do, just make sure that they are ahead. Its easy because right now school is holding back their potential.

Take a look at reality.. right now we are training kids to accept a 40 hour work week when honestly we now have the technology and the smarts to figure out ways that we do not need to work this much... and still live like rich people.... we are stuck with a square meal a day and routine and lets keep them busy so they don't cause trouble, etc. its a way of the past and no longer necessary.

Wake up people!! 40 hour work week was first started by Hitler to get people out of depression.... together we could easily change this but we have to do it ourselves... and stop relying on what they taught us to do.. figure out a way yourself!! We need you!!

Right now people are on my facebook trying to convince me that I should be voting for Bernie and welcome free schooling and tax the rich...but I am sorry but I must say there is a much better solution to our problems (yet no politician points them out) and why the hell would I support free college when the schooling before that FAILS SO MUCH!!

Yeah for the record I am totally against more taxes and more government involvement.. they already have too much and they can make cuts in their own budget for more money that is needed.

Trump is an embarrassment for the entire Republican party... so easy to see..

Hello are we still teaching lies about Health (promoting polluting American agriculture?) and Columbus?? YES!! WTF!!?!?

We need to become more self sufficient for one thing, but that is only the beginning of our problems.. relying on a store to feed you is just stupid at the rate that this population is growing... DO THE MATH... durrr.. yet people are TAUGHT TO BE AN IDIOT!!

Right now it is illegal to be completely self-sufficient! More and more rights are being taken away from the people. WHY?

I never went to school and taught myself everything that I know yet people constantly have to rely on my intelligence... why?? Because I know how to figure things out on my own... if I have a problem its easy to fix.... yet here are all these people with all these problems, computer or whatever, its all easy to fix if they just DID IT!

Everyone in IT should know what I am talking about.. people are so dumb its ridiculous.... and an IT professional can get paid for simply rebooting and rebuilding instead of the idiots that waste time trying to figure out every problem... its only worth visiting if its a reoccurring problem! Just get it fixed, stop making a fool of yourself by trying to figure it out while people are watching.... sorry but there are idiots everywhere, even in the IT field.. they do not spend enough time improving their routines among other things.... if you are good at IT than you probably spend a lot of time waiting on idiots that don't know as much... like having to work with other companies and stuff.

So there is my rant.. I might add more later, kind of drunk, thanks for reading..

Woot! I get to have a hippie rant!

I fucking hate hippies. Like, to my core, hate them. Whilst they have the best of intentions, they are narrow minded, selfish and ignorant, coupled with a superiority complex.

How does this fit in with your rant?

    Education.

The current education system in the west was originally designed for the top 5% of society - the best and brightest amongst us who are academically minded. For everyone else there were other forms of education - trade based, apprenticeships, vocational etc, or if you were stupid and beyond teaching, there were always the factories and the mines.

Then hippies came along. "Thats not fair", "We deserve better" etc etc. FUCK YOU HIPPIES! It may not be fair that there are smarter people than you out there, but there are, its a fact of life. But, hippies can't handle that fact. As a result, the education system designed for 5% of the population is now applied to 100% of the population. Of course, most aren't capable enough, the knowledge learnt isn't useful in everyday life so its wasted effort. Like you said, we've also stopped teaching more everyday skills, like trying to impart a love of learning, creativity, social responsibility etc, because hippies view this as "social engineering" which, in their minds, is wrong (unless you are forcing people to be hippies, they're fine with that).

In the UK at the moment, there is continued arguements about tuition fees for university. What used to be free 20 years ago now costs up to £9k a year tuition. Hippies are complaining that it stunts social mobility (even though everyone can get loans so it doesn't) but is it any surprise? 20 years ago, it was in the publics interest to fund university for a small proportion of the best and brightest, because those people used the skills they learnt and it had a net positive effect on the country. Now? Waste of money, so why would the government (and via taxes, us) fund it? How does some dumbass getting a shit media studies degree from a crap university benefit the country?

Education needs massive reform in the west. We only need a very small core of academic subjects taught - maths, english and some basic science. Everything else should be optional. Don't like geography or history? No problem, learn plumbing and electrics instead. Don't like manual labour? Learn the arts, drama, music etc. Not creative? Learn about forestry, gardening or whatever. Got people skills? Learn the art of good people management, office skills, administration.

Couple that with some basic "This is how the world works" type education - taxes, government, voting, military, so that our children leave school both with useful knowledge for a career as well as knowledge of how to live in the real world.

Above all, set realistic expectations. Not everyone is going to be rich. Not everyone is going to be famous. So, stop telling everyone they will be. Teach our children to set realistic goals but, more importantly, how to appreciate what they have now and how to focus on what they enjoy. Who really cares about rich or poor is you are happy?!

    A hippie rant . .. lol

    I can dig that.

What I hate about hippies is that they always tend to lean toward socialism and want free handouts without thinking of the big picture. I tend to get along with them because they can be nice people but I feel like I have to walk on eggshells sometimes because they have become so politically correct. Its like they have become what they used to stand up against.

Yeah time is way more important than money, but our current system is designed to take up your time and your money... more can be taught in a fraction of the time if it is done right, but kids are taught to get their answers from teachers and textbooks... when they could be taught how to come up with the answers by relying on their own intelligence and helpful tools provided by teachers. What I mean is, instead of teaching them how to solve a problem, present the problem to them and encourage them until they figure it out on their own without holding their hand along the way.

Also, pair them up with others and have them work together to solve problems at times so that they learn teamwork at an early age. Find way to dangle a carrot in front of them and make it competitive so that they are determined to figure out the answers first, then swap people in teams to balance it out and do it again... this way they will have their confidence boosted in the long run and in the future easily be able to figure out problems and come up with better people skills. With our current setup, kids are held back because they are taught to look elsewhere for the answers instead of coming up with it themselves. Its like they are not developing their creative and logical minds enough.

Think of Einstein... he was terrible at school but he was a genius because he could teach himself.. he developed a mind for testing theories and applying scientific method because he had common sense. He did not develop these skills from relying on the teacher and textbooks every time.

When people regularly try to figure things out on their own, they become very good at it over time and then can then suck up information and calculations faster.

1 teacher and a classroom of 40 students all expected to listen and pay attention for an hour and then given homework is not the best way to learn.. sure it can be good for some things but they should be taught how to rely on coming up with the answers themselves first.

The next generation could be the smartest one we have ever had.

Right now, with our current system, its too easy to be neglected or held behind because you are waiting for other kids to catch up.

I think the education system you are describing already exists: Steiner Waldorf

I had an ex that went through this education system in Australia. Some examples of how it differed in primary school - reading and maths.

In the UK, young children are taught the alphabet, forced to read basic books, read out loud to the class etc. It is teacher-led and forced up the children. In the Steiner system, it is child-led. Kids are not taught to read at a set age. Instead, the teachers set up situations where reading is required to progress. For example, playing board games. Apparently this is a common method used in Steiner schools.

Kids are given something fun to do, like playing a board game. However, they can't play without knowing the rules, and they can't know the rules until they can read. The kids then have a genuine desire to learn to read so they can learn the rules so that they can play. On the maths side, monopoly is typically used. Kids want to play but can't play without understanding basic addition and subtraction with a bit of multiplication, so during the course of playing the game they learn basic maths.

The desire to learn is thus instilled in the child early on. The end result is that early development is slow (my ex didn't learn to read until aged 7) but mid and late level development is significantly faster because the children grow up with a strong desire to learn. The teachers act more as knowledge-bases - people to call upon as a resource for learning, rather than the person driving the learning experience.

Steiner schools also mix in a broader range of subjects, rather than just academic, and underlying it all is some social engineering to make the students thoughtful of others, the environment and to be the best they can be. Prince Charles actually wanted to send Prince William and Price Harry to a Steiner school in the UK but was turned away because the additional security would be too disruptive to the spirit of education.

@Jean-Luc_Picard I'm also very happy I'm not a hippie. I had the misfortune of living with some hippies in my second year of uni (this was when my hatred really took root) and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. My expectations of free-spirited, easy going, happy natural people was completely shattered. Smelly, arrogant, narrow-minded, aggressive bastards! Never again!

Exactly you are spot on from what I was talking about but we could design better games for them to learn, and even throw in complicated math in some of them... much more interesting than trying to pay attention for an hour each class or whatever!

Honestly, I think that tabletop roleplaying games is one of the things that made me excel over the average joe.. they are so slow when it comes to coming up with new ideas or figuring out a problem compared to me but also I think that its being the game-master or dungeon-master because you are expected to know the rules and make sure everything is as realistic and fair as possible... so question is, how do we educate kids in a way that makes them as smart?

Hands down, imagination rules.. take a look at all of the geniuses out there and its there.

Ironically many adults are against role-playing games and some even see it as the work of the devil! O.o

Meh, only problem today is that people don't believe in love.
They have no desire to work hard, study hard.
If you have that desire, it really doesn't matter what is the education system, you will go and do it or die trying.  And you wil be happy.  That's the power of love.  (faith and truth which are the base for true love)

The form of education the world uses today was created during the Napoleonic Wars to waste young people's time and keep them busy. Therefore it isn't failing at all, it's just fulfilling the original role it was designed for, which doesn't involve educating anyone except as a possible side effect while doing busywork.
