How are they evil? I've read a bunch of stuff about SWG. Is that what you mean? But they're a business. If everyone leaves SWG but plays some of the other SOE games then they're going to take the hint. They're not out to lose money.
Personally, I like the low monthly payment for all their games deal. I play EQ2 and EQ1 for one price and thinking of trying the other SOE games. That's a good deal.
Just take it out on the game you feel they messed up. Then you can still have fun and make your statement.
Theres a difference between paying accounts and players who actually play. The amount of accounts is staggering when you think about how many people dont play but dont care about paying the monthly fee. Most of which are waiting for the new expansions to come out, going in to play them to find the phat lewt and getting bored and stopping again.
If people would cancel their accounts when they stopped playing, S0NY would have a problem.
It's also hard to determine just how many subscribers there are because SOE tends to pad their subscription numbers with the SOE All Access members. So, it's difficult to tell if the 'subscribers' they mention have even played the game at all.

I think it's a great deal, too. But, even if only a fraction of the subscription money I pay goes to support SWG, I can't do it. So I cancelled my Station Access and now only subscribe to EQ2.

EQ is now < 90k subscribers. They used to have near 45 servers when it was +200k subscribers, but when those went to 1/10 to 1/3 full they merged half, and still these are 1/5 to 1/3 full. To reduce the server # by half and still have less playing on each means about 3/4 of the subscribers are gone, so 90k is on the generous estimation. (ie. 45 glasses [servers] of water [subscribers] merged [poured water from the 45 to 20 glasses] means if all the subribers remained all the 20 glasses should be full if not overflowing. But, in fact the current servers are as deserted as the orriginal +40 servers that means WAY over half the subscribers are gone... hence why the actual #s are a closely guarded secret; and masked with the all access pass and the 'subscribers' in other $OE games.)
But EQ is still a fun game, a good practise hack n slash MMO for upcoming powerhouses like "hardcore" http://vanguardsoh.com/ Vanguard:Saga of Heroes and "consolish" http://www.webzengames.com/Game/Sun Soul of the Ultimate Nation (SUN.) EQ is not even in the picture with multi million subscriber games... blame $OE.
However those 90K are composed of peoples who barely play the game at all. I believe a Saturday could be surprising and showing too many peoples online exceptionnally, but usually will prolly be short in numbers.
Peoples who used to play a lot play it once a week or two. That lead to empty servers and huge "active" databases.

i cant speak for all the servers, but since returning to the pvp server it is more packed now than what it was almost 2 years ago when i left. yes i know they merged servers, but does it really matter? to me it only matters how populated my server is....
I don't really think EQ1 has lost so much player base it is 90k. Figures I saw show 400k+ still just most probably only play a few months after an expansion comes out or raid only. Once you have 500+ AA's why do anything except show to guild raids?
If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)
Speaking as one of those who subscribes to Access,
I play most of my time in EQ2, but when my EQ guild needs me they send a cross/tell and I log in and play. Admittedly, I am one of those who kind of muddies the waters for "pure" number of active accounts but I think in general the EQ population is still pretty healthy.
P.S. I am one of those who had 3 games of the trifecta, and was sooo digusted with what they did to SWG with the release of JTL, I did cancel that part of my account.. so technically they did not lose the money so they probably didn't feel the hit that was intended.. but they did lose a "paying SWG customer" so I hope my intended goal was accomplished.
all i can tell you is, i have returned to the pvp server to mess around until vanguard launches, and it has a ridiculous amount of people on the server, way more than my old server had for the past few years before i quit.

Eww, not sure how that happened, but without the ability to delete, I guess we're stuck with the waste of space unitl a mod fixes it.
If you are really upset about it, look back at my other 500+ posts here and tell me how many were multiples, you'll realize that was a mistake.
