About the SOE License pullout... (update)

Pjay2kPjay2k Member CommonPosts: 260

- LucasArts did not "pull" the license off Sony Online Entertainement, but:

There is another (?)StarWars(?) mmorpg in developement by a big company based on the pre-cu system (NOT the pre-cu code of Sony Online Entertainement) but with the same key features of "the old" Starwars Galaxies.

you'll see the announcement on E3.

The main reason for the NGE was to make it ready for Playstation 3. They had to make Starwars Galaxies ready for PS3, no mather what the player base wanted, that's why SOE didn't even ask.

And R. Koster is also involved in the developement of the new (?)StarWars(?) (Name: Star Wars Online?) mmorpg, which will be announced with E3.

Seriously, what did you guys think were the developers of the old Starwars Galaxies edition especially spacetimestudios.com doin all the time ?

they're working hard to drop the bomb on E3.

Does this belong on the rumor forum? Also, it doesn't really matter... if LA doesn't terminate the SOE/LA relationship, LA continues to be just as responsible for the SWG mess.

Are we talking about a SW game ?

  • ridenarridenar Member Posts: 121

    kinda makes sense....

one game (sandbox, virtual world) for the obvious player base that liked Pre-CU and if anything wanted the game to go more hardcore.

one game for the 'I want luke skywalker to be my best friend and not have to think too much cause thinking hurts' crowd  aka where SWG is heading....

why not have both  gotta be room for 2 SW MMO's.

Yep this is what I was just thinking, it all makes sense and all that we have heard has been true, "from a certain point of view"

LA is not pulling the license from $OE, Torres is most likely telling the truth. BUT, I think a new Star Wars online game will be coming, ready for the tie in and "marketing synergy" of the new TV series.

Think of it like this, LucasArts wants money, so they let $OE keep the license for an original trilogy based game that SWG is, and lets another company do a new game based on the time between Ep. 3 and 4, where the TV series would be based. This way $OE gets to keep their crappy NGE, and also gets to keep paying LA millions in license fees. LA gets a shiny new game they want for the TV series, as well as ANOTHER company paying them money. LA wins both ways, Smed and Torres are telling the truth about $OE keeping the NGE, and the rumors of a new Star Wars game would be true as well.

This would be great, as the morons that like the NGE can stay in crapville, and we'll get a new Star Wars game in a couple years.

I honestly believe SOE is almost done with expanding and fixing of SWG. I would say by the end of the year they will fix alot of bugs with SWG and release one more expansion.

So, that when the PS3 launches in Novemberish they can go on their online service. Its obvious thats what the plan is. They say like were doing a nice thing and fixing bugs for the rest of the year. Well, if they didnt they could never release it as a PS3 title.

The bulk of people hanging around now I would guess are those who stay because it's the only SW MMO in town.  The minute another SW MMO breaks the surface it'll make today's server population look like Pre-CU population.  With its history and reputation, there's no way SWG could survive another SW MMO existing.

This is another rumor I have trouble with.

the worst thing for SOE is not the loss of customers with the NGE. It's the reputation damage.

And as soon as another company with a good name releases something bigger and better than the current Starwars Galaxies mmorpg, SOE can shutdown their own.

As you know, we have been gathering feedback from the community via the forums, polls, chats and focus groups.  From that feedback we have received one clear message; everyone wants the development team to focus on the live game.  Well, we agree and have therefore decided to dedicate the entire development team to the live game for the rest of this year.

    What exactly does this mean?

Specifically, it means we will focus on one, and only one thing, the live game. And, we will not be doing an expansion this year – that’s right, this is not a typo – no expansion!

Because of this unilateral focus, we will be able to do a lot with the live game this year – things that are on your top ten list and ours as well.  Our publish plan will grow to include many new features that we wouldn’t previously have been able to do. Some of these include the addition of new high-end content targeting players between levels 70 - 90, along with a new profession customization system that will allow you to make your characters more unique – do I see a few interested nods out there?  And, of course we will also expand on the features that were in the original plan, add more story-driven questing content, and dare I say – fix more bugs.  The publish plan is geared to get more of what you want in the game, faster.  And, with the highest quality and level of polish.  We want our community to be excited about playing SWG.

I will continue to keep you updated with more details as we get closer to each publish.  As always your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your continued support.  May the Force be with you.

I personally dont beleieved anything till i see it in big black and white, I am not saying you are lying or some like that is just that i am tire of getting my hopes up and them everything falls down and crumble. Anyway i hope is true and we all could enjoy the good game that we loved before all this mess SOE created 4 month ago.

In the other hand i think we should pay more attention to Biowear, they are up to somthing and it have to do with SWG. If they pull this out there going to be a lot of happy SWG vets out there.

Is this a post from Mr. McDaniel himself or a copy & paste from somewhere else?

Because if it is, I would like to tell him that this is a too big of a pole to dangle such a small carrot in front of us.  This should've been done years ago, not when your subscriptions are at a critical point where you just can't afford to loose anymore.

And please, get off your high horse about not doing anymore expansions this year.  It has been proven and confirmed by your president Mr. Smedley that you were going to do one, but you've shifted your focus because of the reasons above.

Face it, all you are trying to do is sucker in people to keep on paying their subscriptions.  "We'll have this mess fixed eventually, please stay tuned!" doesn't quite cut it this far into the game.

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

ain't it funny how they use this as an excuse to avoid admitting that there are far too less customers for a new expansion?

    imagine creating a new expansion for 2000 - 4000 subscriptioners left :)

which company can afford that ?

All of the excuses SOE and LA made for the game changes were nonsense except for this one - It's been denied from the beginning, but Star Wars Galaxies is being ported to next gen consoles, particularly Sony Playstaion 3, or so I've heard.

Whether or not this is still going to happen I don't know, but after playing the game after the NGE, I knew right away that it had become a console game on the PC.

I don't know about all the rumors, but Star Wars is dead and gone, at least from the online gaming perspective.

That explains the mysterious e-mail I got... "It's not Blizzard" That was it... just "It's not Blizzard"

I completely forgot about Spacetime. And if it is partnered with NC Soft.. I'm ready to pre-order RIGHT NOW.

This all makes sense. LA and $OE praying SWG can be a successful port to the PS3. Quite frankly, it is the only market left to them.

Next gen systems may be the only market left for a Star Wars mmo, but I am thinking of the online games starting up on the new consoles that are likely going to overshadow any new Star Wars mmo, particularly the Lord of the Rings mmo coming for the Xbox 360, a rumor of True Fantasy Online Live possibly coming to the Xbox 360, and many other games from companies focusing on making an mmorpg for the next gen systems.

"Speaking at the Final Fantasy XI Fan Festival held over the past weekend, the team behind the game reportedly made claims that a next-generation MMORPG is currently in the works. Refusing to share any specific details, that game however will appear on unspecified next-gen consoles along with Windows Vista; TVG will hopefully have further information soon..."

I hope Square-Enix will bring TFOL back for the 360.

Hehe, first they add magic loot to SWG and now they are adding EQ's AA system too it. Man they are just showing such creative thinking here...

I doubt any of it will amount to any significant improvement in the gameplay. Now they are just trying to "appear" like there will be character diversity again.

This article contridicts Rouge_5 published on 03/24/06:

    http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=12228

    The specific quote is:

"LucasArts and SOE have no plans to 'sunset' Star Wars Galaxies," said SOE in a brief statement. "The two companies will continue to work together as partners in making Star Wars Galaxies the ultimate online Star Wars experience. As has been announced several times previously, LucasArts and SOE are 100% committed and determined to continue to support Star Wars Galaxies together, especially with our renewed focus on improving the game for existing players through robust publish and content offerings in 2006."

Very interesting.... how are they going to have additional content offerings if they are going to focus on the live game?

I don't think they make manure SCUBA suits...

While the quotes and rumor mill still running a muck, i would further like to add they do not have the support to warrent another expnsion at this time nor do i feel they have the employes to make it happen either.
They may be riding on the factor of the ps 3 launch to save the title and there online area, include product placement advertising in the existing title and see if it can weather the exsiting storm on limited updates and a skeleton crew.
At any rate it will be interesting to see what other oppertunites are coming out in the near future and see if it is all clone based games or something that can be a sandbox of sorts that will re kindle interest in the market. Time will tell..........

Putting it on the PS3 wouldnt help the game any. Why would you pay the rumored $700 for the shitstation3, and then probably $80-$100 for the game (if the cost of the system is a sign of pricing) to play a 3 going on 4 year old shitty game.
