Wait a few weeks for Path of Exile, nothing has changed since season 6, apart from a lot of nerfs.

Path of Exile with gender-locked classes, in particular no female melee, loses to D3 every time.

Why does it feel like you have never played PoE? You do know that you can build melee/caster/ranged build with any class though of course some are better than others. Nonetheless it's not hard to make a Scion/Ranger melee build for example, so what you said is pretty much... meh comment.

I freely admit I don't play and haven't since launch. It sounds interesting enough, I guess. Maybe one day I'll take a look.

what does gender have to do with melee ? you can play any class with any skill in poe  O.o
i can understand not liking the game or the mechanics or the genderlock but come on ... you are a videogames journalist. at the very least, check your facts before posting.

back on topic, new seasons are always fun for a little while in diablo 3. can't wait to grind for a week or two.

More than anything about D3 -- while I like the idea of seasonal rewards, they need to be more varied. Collecting all of the armors...well, I have them on the characters I play and in ancient quality too. The portrait  frames are pretty dull. The only thing that interests me is the pet and probably new Torment levels. They need to shake things up with season-only pets or gear or something like that.

I'll take that one step farther... D4 or whatever the new project they are working on can't come soon enough(assuming it's not some stupid mobile thing).

Hopefully that's what they are focused on while keeping D3 on "seasonal" lifesupport.
