  • Well, somesay that this game dies at level 60, some say it starts there, but let me tell you something about it with an honest report.

this game is for two types of people, Grinders, and semi-casuals.

first the semi casual game starts, leveling from level 1 to 60, it's fun, you do quests, but they get repeatitive with time, since there are few types of quests that involve the same objective, you do instances which involve a series of quests, which is the fun of questing ( but not when you start an alt), so basically, it's fun and enjoying leveling from 1 to 60, with friends or solo.

then after hitting 60, the game becomes a grind fest, you basically start grinding for EVERYTHING in the game, and spend countless of hours in instances and gathering materials here and there for uber items, and do 40 man raids with guilds in specific times, and then spend countless of hours in PVP, and waiting in a queue to get into the Battlegrounds.

it becomes a grind for gold, faction, items, and minirals ( for the uberest of items ), basically, if you like this type of play, the type where you get no life, you might lose your job and GF ( if you have one or unless she plays WoW too ), then this game is for you.

if you're not, then when you decide to buy the game, level up one char in allience side, and another on horde side, then QUIT, don't even think about going on.

this was my 99 cents, take it or leave it.

EDIT: just wanted to add, that the goal of WoW is who looks the coolest, i mean, everything you do is for items, and when ppl get bored of the current 40 man raiding dungeons, blizzard introduce new 40 man raids with more powerful items and cooler looks, so the whole thing is who gets the most powerful and coolest item ever and first, that's the whole purpose of the game.

You know...its possible to get exhaulted in every BG with out GRINDING it out and having no life. Im pretty hard core and play way more then I should, but I have a friend who has had the same lvl 60 on the same server for about 7 months and he just plays two or three hours a day and has managed to get exhaulted in all the bgs and has got rank 10 and the epic mount from av with minimal grinding.

naah man the game begins once y reach 60 :P

    - if u play on a PvP server u get a bunch of mates and go gank n00bs
    - do raid instances with mates and get tier 2 armor which is fun :)
    - go bgs get good rank

and if u dont wanna do that junk theres allways the option of making an alt :)

Everything starts once you get to 60. 1-60 is a great deal of fun, and boredom, but 60 is a great level. There are many paths to take, as to what you want to be and what you want to have. PvE, PvP, Both, Just playing with friends, and more. But getting to Level 60 is the real challenge, it is basically a test to see if you are up to face all the things you will as a 60. This requires a guild, but if you are a great player, and know your class well, this shouldn't be a problem.

World of Warcraft may have a lower rating on MMORPG.com than Guild Wars, I assure you, it is much better.

At 60, whether the game dies or not depends on what you find fun. If you find running instances lots of times to fill out your gear, then joining a raid guild where everything is about either beating bosses superfast or accumulating loots so that you can keep rerunning those instances, you'll definately have something to do, there's a new raid released every other patch or so. If you want to PVP for 12+ hours a day for 3 months with no breakds you can try for the honor system PVP gear, though it's inferior to the current top-end raid gear and will fall furhter behind. There are some kind of neat things to do with reputations, like getting another race's mount or getting the furblog stuff, so if you enjoy farming 20k or so of the same mob then you'll like working towards those.

If you enjoyed things like general questing and running instances in groups small enough to know the other platers (pretty much 5-mans, 10-mans are pushing it), that stops dead after a bit at 60. They've added in some quests where you can rerun the same 5 mans a lot to get some gear, but that gear is still way behind the raid gear, and they haven't added any significant 5-man or small group content in a long time. (And what they have has been poorly implemented, read up on the Silithus quests and how you can't share them and can't just go pick up the same quest as your bud). World PVP is mostly dead, if you like battlegrounds then you can play them, but unless you raid or get the PVP gear set then you'll spend some games just being a target for people with double your damage and half again your hit points.

You don't have to pvp for 12hrs a day for 3 months to enjoy the ranking system. I do agree with you the honor system is pretty fubar but you can still get a decent rank depending on what server your on.

A "Decent" rank by my definition is one that will put you on an equal gear footing with the raiders gear-wise, and the that's the epic gear at rank 13, 14 if you want the weapons. To hit the top ranks, you do actually need to play for most of your day, 7 days a week, for about 3 months. If you're on a new server the blue gear will be decent until the raiders get geared up, which will take months so you do have a window there, so depending on server I'd agree that you can get a decent rank, though only a temporarily decent one.

What people "enjoy" is highly dependant, I didn't enjoy the ranking syetem period because of the 'must play a lot each week, don't take a week off, don't go do fun world PVP,' feeling it generated. If you want to have a character with an ability level comprable with the raiders in BGs, though, you're going to need to either raid yourself or get the epic PVP gear.

My rogue had decent gear, had the exalted rewards from Alterac Valley and good blues for gear, with 3700-something HP (4k was where I'd like to be, but that's decent). She was once ONE-SHOTTED by a warrior who wasn't even targetting me, just using that melee AOE they have. My druid, with 9k armor and 5.7k hp in bear form, wasn't ever one-shotted in bear but couldn't last more than a few seconds against those raid weapons.
