Compared to other games I'm keeping an eye on (The Chronicle for one), HJ is doing great in the form of info here on MMORPG.COM. I cannot however speak for their official website/forums. There may be great info there as well but I'm not wasting hours of my time trying to figure out how the hell their forums work. It is the most user unfriendly forums I've ever seen and refuse to go there ever again for info. Please let the public know when you all decide to switch to a more conventional forum format. Until then, I come here for anything and everything HJ.

Haven't seen much traffic in this thread for awhile. Glad your back in action.
Question about applying fore off site GM position. I applied a few weeks, 2 or 3, ago. Does the company contact you even if they aren't interested? Or is no news bad news?
I know I shouldn't expect an answer this soon but you know how it is. I haven't been this excited about anything since I can remember. So probably shouldn't watch the pot because it will never boil.
I like that they offer to train in other areas. And it comes as no surprise that other more experienced GMs like yourself are willing to help out dummies like moi. Sounds like what I would expect from you guys and gals. Just from what I have seen of your activity in this forum.
At the least I would like some feedback on the quest I described. I told it in story form. Not sure if that was what they wanted. Probably not. If that is the case think I should reapply? Or just wait? I guess What I really want to know is...Why haven't they called me yet? They never call, they never write...
Well, maybe I am in store for a change of fortune. Maybe even underwear. Who knows?

Hiring happens in waves (That's a good way to put it). But I'm not going to candycoat this. Sometimes it can take awhile. When I was hired in 1999, I was turned down once (typos.. thanks for noticing Elonka!).. I reapplied and then it still took 9 months from that time.
That process has gotten MUCH better though.
I can not say if they give a reply to those that are turned down or not. I honestly do not know.
Give it some time. If you do not hear anything. Reconsider your application and go over it with a fine tooth comb. Re-work details of it and consider it a learning experience. Story included.
And if you do get on staff, I'd be more than willing to teach you what I know. (Once you get out of training).
And I'm always open to give (and get) advice. That same thing applies to 99% of though. If we can help each other, we always do.
I'm seriously looking at applying. Even if it's just to feel that I gave it a shot. My only concern is coding. I have little knowledge in it although I can easily do minor hacks on php forums and I've tinkered a little with shaders in Quake III arena for several levels I was developing for online consumption. I've been wanting to learn a computer language but haven't looked seriously yet into it, perhaps I should have. hehe
Sorry, kind of drifted from the topic. Thought I'd throw that out there since we'd sort of drifted into this.

Coding is just one part of HJ. I myself had never coded before 1999 other than small things here and there on an apple or c-64.
I set aside a couple months and learned the basics of C an applied. (And was turned down)
I then set aside another month to dive into C++ and reapplied (without typos) and was hired.
One big part though, is the love of gaming. The rest, we can teach. Take the time and read over what we are looking for at www.play.net/hj and decide.

Having an understanding of one or more coding languages helps if you want to apply to be a coder. Simu creates their own coding languages for each of their games though. So you'll be learning a new language from scratch. Knowing other languages helps in that you have a good understanding of code format and etiquette. Coders probably only make up about 50-60% of the off site GM staff though. World team consists of builders with a couple who dabble in coding minor stuff. Quest team consists of writers, coders, and builders. Development is pretty much all coders.

I'de teach anyone, anything that I know... if they want to learn.
And as an FYI for those thinking about it, we will be holding classes for those willing to learn that are on staff.
Part of being a GM is teaching the ones that come after you.
