    Just get a local SIM Card every time I go to some other country I get a local SIM prepaid to avoid this bill.

    Daughter is just going to Kenya for 2 years, she bought an Iphone, but, she isn't activating it until she gets over there because it 'locks it to the sim card' or something like that. When she comes back again i think she is just going to buy another iphone to replace the one she uses over there. :o

    I use android no issues about locking

    Use a Windows Phone since they tend to have removable batteries, sims, and SSD cards.
