Wondering if a game with these aspects exists

I'm wondering if an mmorpg that allowes you to select abilities from every "class" and use them whenever exists.

Like I lvl up once and choose warrior ability x, then lvl up again and add theif skill y to that or something, idk if this makes sense but its something i think would be cool and allow for somewhat unique characters. Anyway, just wondering if its a thing or not.

Final Fantasy XIV allows that to some extent.

Rift fell into that "So much better before they started tinkering with it" category.

It had a ton of promise in beta, and was decent at launch, but everytime I found a combination that I liked, they made it no longer work.  After they wrecked me the third time post launch, I was done.

That's what RIFT was suppose to be before they nerfed it really hard (maybe fearing problems with balance). You could mix and max any 3 classes and their abilities - but when it launched they kinda nerfed it to "similar classes" instead of any.

ESO has a quite open class customization since there is race and "weapon" skills.

And, of course, there are the ones without classes.

But the right question remains? Do you look for what kind of mmorpg? b2p? F2p? Sci fi? Fantasy? Any?

Also, DDO is class based (and very limited), don't know what @DKLond is talking about.
f2p or b2p, whatever works as long as the f2p isnt pay to win lol. and fantasy all the way.
and really? ddo is class based? a shame. il check it out anyway, apparently theres a trial

Ehm, he's asking for a game where you can get abilities from different classes.

You can do that in DDO - because it's a multiclass game.

As in, you can pick feats from a Fighter class - and then pick feats from a Rogue class. EXACTLY like he was looking for.

Please, D&D multiclass system is quite restricted, even more restricted on DDO where many feats are missing.
I wish I could see the relevance here. I'm not saying there are no restrictions - I'm saying he can do what he says he wants to do.

Whether that's "good enough" - is up to him. Trying to determine exactly what he wants from such a short post would be futile at best and incredibly arrogant at worst.

The game that allows you to do exactly what you described is the Secret World. You are able to learn every skill in the game; however, you can only use 7 I believe with 7 passives at any given time and the skill use is based on the weapons you have equipped (can equip 2 at any given time)

Archeage and ESO are probably ones that get you close, with archeage allowing you to pretty much place a mixture of 3 classes at once at any given time (can play all 'classes' in the game on a single character) and ESO has a pretty wide variety of skills you can learn and alter their effects making gameplay more tailored to your style per class.

Well its old but it sounds to be what you want. Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted you have to level each class separately but you gain abilities that you can use across classes...

One thing I liked about Skyforge is how you could switch between classes on the fly as long as you weren't in combat.  Very grindy game though.

Yep, the Secret World may be your game.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Istaria a lot if the skills from one class can be used when you switch classes.  Not all but a lot.

Doh just saw someone already said  that.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

ArcheAge allows you to learn ALL skills from all skill trees on a single character - you can change which skills you use at healer NPCs in game.

    This allows for 120 classes

Now you still have to choose from 3 skill trees - and as you put points into each skill tree you can handpick what skills you actually want to use - so it is possible for 2 players to be playing the same class but actually have variance on which skills they use.

Of course there are tried and true "best builds" but you can certainly come up with unique combination of skills and play a class all your own (may not be the most optimized but it's certainly possible).

I've played ArcheAge, it isn't quite what I'm looking for plus it's VERY pay to win.

Skyforge isn't quite it either, I want to be able to use different skills from different classes without switching. Plus like you mentioned, very grindy and it feels like you just visit the same 4 worlds the whole game

Is secret world the one where you're in a city and you got guns and stuff? If so then no thanks, I'm looking for something more fantasy/medieval.

So far it sounds like ESO is the closes to what I'm looking for, although I'm hesitant to buy it without knowing for sure, wish there was some kind of trial version.

    [EDIT]
Theres actually an anime that's based in a fantasy world that illustrates what I'm looking for pretty well: Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

In it, the main character guy can learn new skills by having other people of any class teach it to him, then use skill points to learn it. Idk how many of you have seen it but if you have youll understand what i mean.

Yep, sounds like ESO.  You can use any weapons and the skill trees are flexible.  Down side would be bugs and they love the nerf bat.  But I enjoyed the time I played and go back from time to time.

I'll go with ESO as well. I've played DDO, Rift, TSW, AA and ESO and even though all of those allow some form of development freedom, ESO is the one that feels least limiting and class-bound to me.

In ESO you have 18 active abilities that are class-bound and 76 that are open to anyone. Of those 94 you select which 12 to use at any given moment and you can change any of those 12 anytime you're not in combat to give a different role to your build... PVP or PVE... tank, DPS or healer... and many variations on how exactly you perform any of those roles.

    That is its biggest strength.

Octagon is right in that in its 2 years it has gone through some rather severe nerf/buff cycles where, for example, ranged magicka-based and vampire builds were once king during its first year and melee stamina-based and Werewolves have the edge now. But that's just par for the MMO course - I've never played one that didn't constantly go through that in its life cycle.
