I was going to post this.  You beat me to it.  Interesting article about the hoops you have to go through for just a refund.

We'll see I get the feeling that CIG/RSI might be rushing SM out due to upcoming releases from other companies, and lets face it, it's way over due.

Don't think they feel burned. Its a decent article detailing the life of Star Marine and besides who really trusts Chris Roberts when he says something is being released?

MMO are like sport teams.  We have a need to be a part of a group, it becomes an extended family.  So we support it, defend it, and would make sacrifices for it if we held a high enough position in it's cast system.  It's part of the herd mentality I think.

Speaking academically, isnt it sad that we humans as a species as so susceptible to the cult mentality?  When you compare Scientology and Star Citizen, the supporters are almost identical.   I saw a video a while back that compared the two and it was scary.

As a species, we are willing to believe anything, regardless of the actual facts, about something as long as it suits us.  Take the upcoming American presidential election, Trump is labeled as a racist but before this election, he has been in the public eye for 20 years and been associated with many minorities and yet was never called a racist.  But so many people who dislike Trump because of his hair or some other silly reason are so willing to believe he is a racist because the other side says he is.

um, not that we should be getting into political discussions but Trump has been called a racist in the past and has said racist things way prior to anything having to do with this election. There's just a recent "thing" stating that he was never called a racist up until this presidential bid which is not true.

Pleased to say that the '$3000 refund' story have granted more people their refunds.
I know people that 'gave up' after CIG stonewalled them via the new 'TOS' (even though they never agreed to the new TOS), are now raising similar tickets with the government authorities and are being granted refunds afterwards.

This is from an internal email that CIG support sent
"he has threatened "third party assistance" (which in the context of our current workload, seems pretty clear what he means by that)."

Why or how an internal email got sent to the customer is beyond me though.

I think when the dust settles, game or no game there will be a few new words added to the English language. Example if theres no game it could be "You got CIG'd!" meaning you were robbed blind. Or if there is a game and it somehow turns out amazing perhaps "Wow you pulled a CIG" meaning you turned that bad situation around perfectly. :awesome:

Somehow I doubt they'll become part of the common lexicon except to a rabid few.

The amount involved in the flood of refund requests once the 'Streetroller' hit the gaming media is much higher than I expected.
A few high 4 figures, several mid 4 figures, at least three 5 figures etc.

Some are still having the back and forth with CIG on the full amount as CIG refunded only half of the amount.

    I just don't get it.
This whole thing started because CIG thought they can get away with some of the most anti-customer ToS we have ever seen. I mean, a ToS which states that you agree by READING it? Really?
So the 'new ToS' gets media attention (in a bad way) which in turn attracts the eyes of the government; 'hey, what's going on here? Oh, we already have complaints made before this happened? Hey, here's a nice example complaint by 'Streetroller', lets give it a closer look'.
And now, every refund request I see has the 'I will seek third party assistance OR case number 123456 that I filed with the DCBA' line.

The floodgates have opened and it was CIG that kicked it all off.

You mean **gasp** that the total amount of refunds sums up to about 3 days of low activity summer fund raising in SC ?! Or around half a day during pre-X-mas time ?

    I know right!
I mean, the Attorney General / DCBA aren't building cases against CIG because they refused refunds right?
Surely CIG has enough funds to cover the fraction of the refund request so there is no government agencies taking a closer look at CIG!
    Right?!
    Right?

Joking aside, I am surprized that certain backers are upset at this.
Consumers exercising their right is apparently upsetting for them.

That consumers are requesting refunds through proper channels ... no reason to get upset that i see.

That others spin a yarn out of this and call some 0.2 % refunds over 3 years  a  "FLOOD of refund requests"  is what some people find strange.

Not too mention that a significant part of those seeking refunds seem to come from the segment of grey and black SC marketeers that tried to make a quick buck by selling pledge ships at highly infalted prices (and which got burned when CIG destroyed their game by again offering those ships).

"Normal" backers do NOT have 72 different ship transactions on their accounts ;-)

    0.2%? Source?

    CIG said
"he has threatened "third party assistance" (which in the context of our current workload, seems pretty clear what he means by that)."
I believe I said 'Floodgates' but if you think the line can be understood as 'flood of refund requests', than by all means. Although, I thought you would be more accommodating to CIG.

'significant part of those who are seeking refunds are grey and black SC marketeers'
That's your narrative for the spike in people seeking refunds?
    Okay, good luck with that.

I'm told DCBA has now officially opened a case for CIG. So I guess if you FOIA FTC now, you'll get a different response than the previous one.

    Have fun.

You still aren't quoting that article that's what 2 years old now?
  • mr1602mr1602 Member UncommonPosts: 216
A 2 year old article is the source?
    Okay.

I've been given an update by one of the backers who was contacted by DCBA.
DCBA has stated there are a lot of backers across the world contacting them about not being able to get refunds from CIG.
DCBA has notified FTC. (This is where things get really serious.)
Even if the backer has received a refund, FTC should still be notified as the initial rejection by the 'New ToS' is something FTC would be very interested in.

To think that this all started because CIG decided to try and enforce the most anti-consumer ToS I've ever seen. I just shake my head.

I made a capricious decision to not back RSI any longer. I admit that my logic at the moment of agreement was based on a fallacious need.

There is nothing wrong with wanting the best for fans, backer, subscribers. I do not place any blame on RSI for my decision to end my investment.

I wish RSI and all others the best of luck.
