  This is one of those games where I've been hearing great stories about it for years but never played it myself. Sadly, the UI just looks terrible. I'm not normally one who cares about graphics, but when I read about some of the things that happen in this game I think "great" but I can't reconcile those stories with screenshots. 
  
  
  For example, that famous bug in Dwarf Fortress where players would spill their alcoholic drinks on the floor in the tavern, a cat would walk through the puddle, thus getting booze on their paws, then would later clean their paws and get drunk in the process......
  
  Great story, great bug and I sit here imagining building my fortress, building a tavern and then seeing drunken cats walking around....but then I see screenshots. It always looks like like pixelated 2d crap from 25 years ago. Hell, even lemmings on the 286 looked better!
  
  
  
  I guess what I'm saying is I love the idea of this game and applaud their achievements, but I struggle to see the actual gameplay in a good light.
