Question about the PU (no controversy, please)

Sassy_Gay_UnicornSassy_Gay_Unicorn Member UncommonPosts: 316
I am not one for spaceship sims like EVE. I simply can't get "into character" if that makes sense.

According to Chris Roberts and Cowhat will one be able to do in the PU? Will you have a distinct human/alien character separate from the ship? The possibility of such would be the only reason I would start following this more seriously.

Thanks in advance for your time. I fully realize I am asking for a potentially biased response and am totally fine with that.

You'll have a human (dont think there will playable aliens but not sure) character, with which you can walk around in stations and even fly in space with jetpack. There are alot of Videos on Youtube, just watch them if you are interested and you will see what you can do outside your ship.

You have a human character separate from ships. You'll be able to leave the ship, walk around space stations/planets, and even engage in FPS combat with your human character. But Star Citizen is still about spaceships, and if you dislike that idea then the game might not be for you.

Star Citizen occasionally offers free trials. They don't have one currently, but if you're interested in the game wait patiently and you can test it for free when they do another free trial. MMORPG.com has so far always done news when they have free trials, so you'll notice it just reading MMORPG.com news.

Star Citizen is currently in alpha, so there's no hurry to test/purchase it, you can just wait and they'll have another free trial week or weekend eventually.

There are no alien characters in Star Citizen. You can only play as human.

The current gameplay elements on the alpha release, the ship flying / combat, FPS combat, Multi-Crew, EVA and such on the first person character you play as it's pretty much the gameplay pillars of the whole game.

Star Citizen is meant to height on economy, so with the planned gameplay features it's from mining, to trading, exploration and all of that is laid of on a more sandbox manner so players are meant to follow through what they wish.

But it is a space-sim, the core of the game comes from there, you are just playing on the universe as a character not as a ship, you still need them to play the game, even if by crewing a capital ship of another player/s.

And you will be able to use melee attacks.
Are you onto something or just on something?

Talking about PU and avoiding controversy is like jumping in a swimming pool without getting wet. :p

When i was a young lad our local swimming pool used to put people in these giant inflatable balls to go on the water with. So i guess it is possible!

You can also concentrate on the economic side:
    1) Mining
    2) Transport cargo
    3) Manufacturing (in a tiered system from basic materials via ship modules a la ship guns to full scale ship production)

Yeah economic side, trading is going to be the MMO driver.

Though the only way i see a player not really into the space sim aspect to get around is more on the MP Content, that is Organizations of players with dedicated teams focused to different things. Multi-Crew, FPS / Boarding teams.

Though the space sim will always tie and glue all of this together, not liking its space sim aspect is cutting off the biggest part of the gameplay... So it's not really recommended to play a space sim when it's not the space sim part you're wanting to experience.

Was this stuff added to the PU or did you mean to say he could do this in the far future whenever it gets added?

~~getting myself on the middle of this one; read his question: "what will one be able to do in the PU?"

I suggest looking at the current features, not the promised ones.

That said, the game is character based at its core (not ship based like EVE). It is about your character in a ship. A lot of resources go into designing the interiors of both ships and locations. Arguably, the majority of delivered work so far has been interiors.

I think you won't have a problem forming an attachment to your character.

There are a LOT of featues that have been promised and proposed. Without drama, I'll say the developers have the work cut out for them. In your best interest, really make your research on this one, more so than other projects. Have a look at what is available now on the test server.

There is also medical and rescue "jobs". Which is what I'm really interest.

Ah yes! The way they make the ships play some sort of "classes" is quite cool, having ships for re-fueling and for repairing as their main point feeds who may not be wanting to focus on combat yet on support!

According to what they've said, there will be all kinds of gameplay to engage in besides flying ships. That was pretty much the entire premise behind the "Imagine" trailer. (which if you haven't seen, you should watch. Best game trailer ever, imo)

Thank you all for the responses. It sounds a lot like the sci-fi show 'The Expanse'.
