Patch day is no fun

So, this is the first time I have tried to log in before 6:30pm pst on a patch day. My question is this. Are there always issues with realms not displaying, the website working sporadically and disconnects on patch day? I want to make sure it isn't something I am doing mainly.

Yea ive been trying to log in also. its 4:15 pm here they are always back on by 3:00pm
the site just has very heavy traffic right now because thousands of people are going on it simaltaneously to see whats going on

I freaked clean out.. never had an error look like all my characters have been deleted. Been through patch days before, but never that error!

I can log in as well but don't see any servers, but I just know I'll get the queue when the servers do come live...Oh I also still keep getting the downloader saying that I'm behind a firewall even though my window xp firewall is turned off. Though I still got the patch to download.
They said on the forums that it's delayed later than they thought.

I really hate WoW tuesday server maintenance, I really dont think they need to spend half the day working on servers.. But hey what do I know about servers
Just tried to check the realm status page as well, the wow site doesn't even come up. Must be tied to their network issues.

Actually their world server is on the same server as the website, and both were/are down.

It's probably gonna suck all night, I wanna check out the weather myself. My server has gone to hell since Christmas...
Todays patch did alot of things. I read some of the message, not all of it because I was too anxoius to play. Updates on high level armor, certain changes to tradeskills and flight paths. Changes on some high level instances and my favorite, weather added! Only to certain zones but they mentioned they will add more to others as time passes. The servers are probably taking time to settle all these changes. But then again I don't know much about how servers work either. Also consider the ammount of servers they have. I think I remember when I started they had 40 servers. I know its alot more now though.

blizzard makes 95 million + a month, not considering the 50 bucks they made for each sale of the game.
they didnt hire enough new support staff.
instead they stopped making new content and put everyone on server duty.
ie where the fuck did hero classes go?

If I remember they were mucking about with some new server setup which was supposed to alleviate some of the lag, and login issues. They also changed some of the network code, if I remember the post correctly.
In all likelyhood, this is what is causing the delay.
I'm certain that Blizzard will pony up the cash to provide the entire playerbase with their own personal psychiatrist to help them overcome this very traumatic ordeal.
