Healer LF- Game

DurrayDurray Member UncommonPosts: 182
I need your help to find a new MMO, with at least ONE dedicated healer class. Are developers trying to kill my class of choice?

Used to play GW1+2/Aion/WAR/SWTOR, probably sank the most time into Aion. And simply playing the healer is what I enjoy most about MMOs and particularly PVP. The careful balance, skill management, predicting enemy spikes/combos, that moment when you keep your team just about together against all odds...

Sadly, had to stop playing MMOs for the last 3 years (real life) but now have a chance to pick one up again. AND ...and the games I see: Blade and Soul, Blade Desert Online, GW2 seem interesting but there is no primary healer class

Yeah sure, "some classes in those games have more support skills". Well frankly F***k that. Tried it, it's not the same for me.

So I beg your help what great MMOs have I missed that actually still boast a healer!

Of the current games I'm playing, I'd say to take a look at Wildstar. I'm not usually a huge fan of playing a healer (usually do that on an alt), but I enjoy it most in that game. It's fast pace and telegraphed healing sans tab-targetting make it the most exciting for me. The Medic class looks fun too, but I don't have experience with it.

In fact, healing on my Spellslinger almost feels like dpsing.

To comment on some of the games you've mentioned, GW2 recently introduced it's first dedicated healing class, the Druid, necessary for it's raid, so that'd be something to look into.

Black Desert Online's healing consists only of two spells from the Witch/Wizard classes. Overall, the pvp in that game is fun, but has died down tremendously (I played that exclusively from launch until last week). I had high hopes for the node wars/sieges, but they all basically go uncontested at this point, except for the saturday night territory sieges. It's not enough pvp for me.

Oddly enough, Aion is still going strong it seems. I havn't played it in years, and I recently tried to get back into it, but my character's gear was gone and customer service has not gotten back to me yet about it. If you enjoyed that game so much, maybe taking another look at it is a good option.

Thanks for the reply. I did briefly try Wildstar at launch, the PvP was rankly...a broken mess and I heard that it has had ongoing issues with player retention.

I had forgotten the amount to telegraphing in that game!

Would be an interesting spin on traditional healing. Putting in the "Maybe/give another go" Pile :pleased:

I'm on a similar boat as you. I recently quit BDO since the pvp died so tremendously, and am looking for a new home. Wildstar has engrossed me the most so far, but I do worry about it's longevity (not that I should, even if I got 6-10 months of enjoyment for free, it's still nothing but a damn good deal).

I recently bought FF14's expansion and am trying that too, but I have such a backlog of story quests to go through before even starting the expansion that it is taking forever -.-

WoW is your best bet. And although it isn't a new game, it does have a new expansion coming out in 2 weeks.

What is the PvP like in FF14? I honestly stopped playing it after the original launch. Wasted money on a deluxe edition and it was so terrible they made it F2P, fired the studio that made it and relaunched it a year later lol.

Cheers for the suggestion but WoW is really not my game. Would go back to Aion before I went back to WoW :D

I couldn't tell you how the pvp in FF14 is yet -.- I played it at it's re-release and enjoyed it quite a bit, but had to quit due to lack of time. Since I got back a few days ago, all I've been doing are the story quests, so that I can eventually start the Heavensward expansion. There. Are. Alot. Of. Story. Quests.

On the one side, the story quests I've been doing so far (the whole Scions moving into Revenant's Toll) are boring as all hell. It's painful. But, after slogging through a bunch of meaningless quests, you get to a fun primal fight (8-man mini raid bosses necessary to progress the story). I gotta admit, the primal fights are so fun and well designed, that they alone are motivating me to push forward until end game.

All that said, I haven't had the chance to pvp at all yet.

From cooler talk with some friends who do play FF14, it something most players want to ignore.  But raids give each archetype and classes time to shine really well.

Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.

Thanks having another look at TERA now.

I do find it amusing though that the games people are suggesting are all fairly old (>5 years).

Have  devs really been stripping healers out of every new MMO?

Well, the fad for a bit there was to do away with the "trinity" system.  I think this was largely influenced by everyone wanting to be able to solo and not depend on anyone else.  With the public demand for super-easy mode in mind, there's been a few games recently that had pretty weak healing systems.

I'm sure alot of the up-and-comers will have more specialized healing, though.  Pantheon, Camelot, etc., will definitely have healing classes.

If you liked Aion, FFXIV (AAR) is probably worth another try; with the expansion it now has three dedicated healers, all quite fun (IMO) to play.

As far as PvP goes there are 3-faction battlegrounds and a relative new competitive arena mode (which I haven't tried)... but PvP is only at level cap and last time I checked queues for battlegrounds were over an hour long.

So yeah, if you don't mind PvE (healing raids can be quite challenging, and healing in dungeons is still fun as you can DPS in between) with a bit of PvP on the side then FFXIV is worth a shot. If you don't want to do PvE though, this isn't the MMO you are looking for.
