If the update was simply explaining the mechanic then yes it would be overly complex. However, that was not the case. The mechanic is incredibly easy to explain:

Your character gets a year older ever week. Your character can have children, who you can take over upon your first characters death. Or if your children as not a suitable age you can choose another family member instead.

Done! The reason the update is so long is because the explained the reasons, the pros and cons, every step of the process. This is not a complex system, far less so then changing aging or anything of that nature.

Making things MORE complex is the one thing that the COE devs should NOT be doing, lol

Stop fiddling with the design, and start implementing. The clock is ticking, and they have an entire MMO to produce in just 1.5 years now...

Well the 4 day to a year span was ridiculous.  If you only play weekends you age way too fast.  This quote above got a real laugh from me:

"This is not a complex system, far less so then changing aging or anything of that nature. "  The entire game is a huge complexity.

Going to be interesting in how much of their promised features actually make it into the game.

Did they announce a delay? Last I heard their no wipe pay to play head start was coming Q3 2017. As we learned with SotA (and Pathfinder and others before), once you announce no more wipes and are charging for your game... you are launched no matter what your wordsmithing may try to say.

So I clicked on your number38 link there, and saw a massive post. I didn't actually read much of it, but you mean to tell me that the whole thing can be summarized in "you get a year older every week"?

dont worry, im sure this game will have its MIN-MAX figured out and posted on youtube within 2 days after release. someone in beta will have it all figured out by release and everyone will just do what is most advantageous.

There is no game... they still are just drawing ideas and concepts. Yet they are trying to fool backers into thinking the game will be fully released by 2017.. I hate dishonest devs. I backed this game and still think it might turn out OK, but in 3-4 years at least.

I think it is complex. Why should I work hard for something then die and pass it on to my family? I'm working against, death, world PvP, natural disasters, for what? Will the rewards equal the amount of time and work I have to put into the goals of the game? Now take thousands of players with their own ideas and add that to the mix. I like the idea but think they will have to make it a whole lot simpler to implement it. I'm taking a wake and see on this one. I do hope they can pull it off.

Here is what i got from that lengthy article....
Changes to aging and a whole pile of ramble talking about how devs could be might be or should be doing ok with ideas of change.

We could sum that article up in 1 sentence, there is going to be change in aging and maybe more to come, end of story.

Complexity, who even knows what that means in a game or better THIS game?
All i know is i personally love DEPTH and i demand depth,i do not like simplicity such as ONE type of proximity aggro or no accuracy formula's or disruption formula's.
I want my game to be very plausible and full of choices.

I also read some notion of years moving faster or slower depending on age, that is exactly what i DON'T want.it is either 7 days a year or it is not.
Another very important aspect to me and one i have seen done HORRIBLY in games of late is the plausible use of TIME.I don't want to see any magic conjuring done like a machine gun speedfest nor do i want to see swords swinging at 200mph speeds and twirling around like a helicopter,to make it clear,i can't stand anything that looks fake, stupid or whatever term you want to use.

Point being, there are a LOT of things i look at when looking at a game,i don't simply look at aging or one or two ideas and think ok great,i look for a complete game design package.

The first time I played a game featuring heritage mechanics I had to adjust my perspective.  You shouldn't be attached to the individual, you should be attached to the family.  In essence, you are not the character, you ARE the family.

I'd rather play a single character but if it's an integral part of the system then we'll see how it works out.
