Divergence Online News - Ethan Casner has sent word that Divergence Online in its current form is not turning a profit as hoped. Citing DO as being too "niche", Casner has now announced that the best features of Divergence are becoming the foundation of a new, more "Road Warrior" type, game called Divergence: Year One.

lol there is that straight out of SWG interface ageain. Looks like someone purchased the Survival Kit on UE4 and a couple store asset packs there and is claiming to have made a game from all that. The worst part is him claiming some Global Illimulation being what cut the fps by 70%. This guy couldn't even use the stock UE4 settings correctly. There is NO way he is making a new Global Illimulation system for UE4. More like he couldn't figure out how to turn off the stock GI that UE4 uses out of the box.

BTW everything in that video is bought assets from the UE4 store. There is nothing custom there other then the interface.

HAHAHA WTF? Wasn't this a sci-fi sandbox thingy? I remember saying it was a POS then as well. Don't blame the market "Stainglass Llama", blame yourselves for being blind.

*I just thought of a cool name for the next version:

He's doing it again and will continue to do it as long as there's people stupid enough to keep giving him money, which there is.

Right? I was watching the video and was like, Hey I own that asset too, Oh hey I own that one too.
Guess I can just throw some stuff together and release my own mmo too.

What a joke. Have a junk game that can't live up to 1/10th of its promises and you can't escape the resultant bad reviews? Just rebrand!

Oh and if you happen to have been suckered into the first iteration you have a new product now that is receiving the dev time (not that there is much of that) and you'll need to repurchase most likely.

is he using ripped and royalty free assets for this game too?

I can't believe the scammer actually made it through the green-light process on Steam. Does no one check Ethan's history?

Oh and look, a cute new title to match another incarnation of Divergence.

A 'developer' who just won't quit selling us his product is at it again.

    DIVERGENCE: YEAR ONE

Scamming on a Steam platform near you!

All jokes aside, at least he has a playable alpha after 8 years. However, I would never in my life subject any of my friends, family, or co-works to this product. The development is as dreadfully slow as Duke Nukem: Forever.

Shame on Steam for not double-checking the developer as this product was pulled from Steam once before.

If you look at the greenlight I don't really know if I would call it playable, guy has FPS issues with his own game trailer.

That is a straight embarassement that you can't get proper FPS for a trailer. AND if he actually is telling the truth about a software issue why wouldn't you reupload a new trailer? Are you really that lazy?

Additionally Shakkles acts like a 14 year old spoiled kid that doesn't get his way if you try to give him constructive criticism. He deletes the thread/comment and then will seek you out on your steam profile and start posting slander on any reviews/screenshots/comments you've made.

If that's the case, then I wish Valve would rethink their green-light process and insert a more thorough vetting process so that these titles don't reappear under a new name. Of course, I'd also like to see DLC packs only when I'm looking at a game. I don't want to see entire pages full of DLC when I'm looking for a new RPG, Action, Adventure, etc. game.
People have been shouting about this for years; Steam won't change it anytime soon. Not sure why though. I guess it pays the bills.

The game is almost certainly Unity 3D rather than UE4. There's plenty of pages of him complaining on said (early beta) GI plugin being unworkable in "real" games (a not unfair assessment). Why you'd use such a thing in a demo / green light? No idea.

Valve don't want to put expensive efforts into vetting games (thus why the community is supposed to do it for them). They can just pluck out the good stuff once the market has pointed it out to them. Although who looks at the Android marketplace and goes "lets do that!" for their previously well curated store is err "bold".

You are right it is Unity 3D and not UE4. My bad there but most of the assets are store bought assets. Heck UE4 and Unity share alot of the same assets from store to store (aka a good chunck of quality Unity asset store models are also resold on the UE4 store in the Ue4 format)

Well what did you people expect from what was for the most part 1 guy?Geesh

DnL is trying to rehash itself after caught using stolen software and people are more forgiving seems.

I would be proud of myself if i could make Divergence by myslf, even if purchasing assets from other people, still better than stealing assets or ideas.
geesh how do all you people think Wow was created? The entire design/template was ripped directly from EQ1.All Blizzard did was use Warcraft assets and assertain linear questing,i hardly call that the effort of a 3k+ gaming studio with millions of dollars.

Point being, people need to put things in perspective, nobody here could pull off what Ethan did, even if we consider the game to be a dud,i feel people should lighten up and educate themselves more before spending money.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

To put it in perspective,we have this site and others were praising total trash like TROVE,a game i wouldn't be caught dead playing, not worth a 1/10 imo.No this game "Divergence" is not great by any stretch but imo far better done with such few man hours and cash than what other bigger studios have come close to doing.

Imagine if this guy had Chris's 120+ million to play with, geesh i could go in blind folded and build an amazing game from 120 million, yet people keep tossing money at the guy,go figure. What did Ethan have a few hundred thousand to work with?
