Looking for a game that is great for a solo or casual gamer....

I  am an ex everquest player due to the time it takes to play the game.. LOVE THE GAME but after getting married I have no time for it.. Anyone out there have any suggestions for other mmorpg's that are not so time intensive?  WOW, EVE?  any suggestions?

WoW = More time you play, more powerful
EVE = More time you pay, the more powerful, but based on strategy

So, EVE is prob what you're looking for. It was made for the Casual Gamer Adult. Your skills train whether you're logged on or not and take real time to train.

One of the misconceptions is that new players can't catch up. Don't listen to those retards, one will prob post here. The game is strategy based, granted you can't be UBER POWERFUL PWNZER in 2 weeks, but unless you literally play WoW or L2 or EQII 24/7 or pay $500 for a leveling service, you can't do it in those game either.

Plus: Even the haters can't argue w/ the fact that it has the most mature community of any MMO.

EVE isn't a good game if you have limited playtime unless you enjoy spending an entire session doing some travelling or selling; you will spend a lot more time just watching 'warp drive active' and clicking bookmarks than you will doing actual interesting stuff like combat. If you don't mind that then the skill system is easier to keep up with than a level grind system.

EVE only has a mature community if you count maturity by how often members of the game boast that they have a mature community. Reading the "Crime and Punishment" forum on the EVE official boards for 15 minutes is probably the best counter to the idea. Plus I don't consider the close-minded devotion to EVE expressed by its fans to be mature behavior; merely mentioning WOW on the EVE forums as a basis for comparing features will result in multiple people chiming in to say that they hate WOW and believe anyone that likes WOW is bad in a variety of ways.

not so true. lots of respected EVE comunity members admit on the forums they play WoW. they are completely different games. lots of people leave EVE for 2 or 3 months while training some long skills, and then go and make 3 or 4 level 60 characters in WoW, then they quit and come back to EVE.

is just that WoW is a game, and EVE is almost another world.

Guild Wars, no fee you can load up get something done in a few minutes and leave, or spend hours if you want. Plenty of people play it and it has virtualy no downtime, I think 10hours in 11months which aint to bad. You can also play solo and use AI henchmen to help for 99% of the stuff and there is people on 24hours a day as the game is not server based like WoW.

(swore I wrote this already, probably in some other forum due to the dodgy software on the site)

lol, was that an example of what to expact from the mature eve community ?

OP keep in mind that when someones sig, avitar and every post made on the forums is about how great eve is, they're probably a bit biased as to what game you should play.

    Guild Wars, hands down.

Nice storyline/quest system, reletively easy leveling, beautiful graphics, great monthly fee (free) You jump in do a mission jump out, no harm done if you can't play for a month or two. No need to worry if you can't get a group, there are NPC henchmen at your service. Do you like PvP? skip the leveling altogether and make a max lvl PvP character. One major downside is the community...another con would be its very straightforward gameplay, no real crafting or RP elements just hack and slash.

The new expansion is releasing soon.

All in all, its good, fast fun for the casual player.

Reading one single forum where all the gankers conjugate is not my idea of an immature community. I was talking about the player base in general.

GW is another option. But, it's not an MMORPG. GW is very fun, but it doesn't have alot of things that make a MMORPG great... such as a community. The Community in GW sucks, because the game really isn't a MMORPG, it's more of a competition game. I play EVE and GW, since GW takes so little time and is just something I can log into, PVP and leave.... Kinda like a FPS except I suck at FPSs. To me, the gameplay resembles a FPS more than an MMORPG just with a persisitant character that gets a little stronger and a place for your Avatar to physically meet other players instead of a server list or chat room.

Ignore SnaKey, hes got a real beef with GW for some reason. Just a note, it is a MMO and the thing coming out soon isnt an expantion pack, its a new game in the franchise and probably the one id suggest.

And don't start another Debate about that. It is a MMO but it's not a MMORPG in the traditional sense. PlayNC even says it's not a MMORPG, they call it a CORPG.

And I'm sure someone will take that out of context and flame me when they didn't even read what I wrote. But, w/e I'm not going to reply to them I doubt they will even read the words I am writing right now before they start flaming, becuase that's usually the ppl who flame.

I would say GW, Eve takes a long time to get setup properly, even if you have a good corp to join and such. But as others have stated, GW is really mostly used by kids, so don't expect to find a focused group in the game unless you know somebody.

I would suggest Saga of Ryzom, but I'm just starting and I can tell you, it's confusing with its interface, which can be a big turn off when you're looking for 30 minutes for how to alter the keymap. ::::06::

All in all, if you're old hat to DnD in PnP, then I would suggest NWN instead. 30 bucks gets you the game client, plus I believe all the needed expansions[SoU and HoTu]. There's tons of fun action and story[questing] servers still, even with all the hype surrounding its sequel NWN2.

Guild Wars is the ultimate guilt free casual game.  You can get it for a decent price and have 4 characters to make and enjoy some diverse content.  You don't need to play a tank or a healeer becuaes that what groups need - play whatever you want and hire NPC players for the rest or grab a friend or two and a npc or whatever.

It does run out of content but then you can do the PVP.  If you are not into that though it migh get boring fast becuase the level cap is 20 and it is not that hard to level.

Other options might be city of heroes/ villains - log on fight with your custom made hero/villain in an instance mission or the open world and log off - not a lot else to distract you.  But that is also it's problem a very repetative game that is all about combat - but can solo and small group all the way through.

WoW I hear is very fast leveling and solo friendly - I personally have not tried it becuase I have seen a friend blow through the game real fast and have three high levels in a few months all solo.  Also the graphics are a bit of a distraction to me personally.

I would think Guild Wars would hold you for some time until the next great thing you just cant resist comes out.  And if you hate the game it is not a large investment of montly fee - not sure why there are not many other games using the billing model.  Make a decent game with no monthly fee people will not expect as much and not bitch when it is not perfect - and will be more apt to try out the expansion or sequel or whatever.

    ---MMO EXPERIENCE:---
    WoW - 06-2006 to current
    COV - 40 Corruptor - 10-2005 to 04-2006
    COH - 50 Scrapper - 04-2004 to 04-2006
    EQ2 - 35 Barb Berserker - 12-2004 to 04-2005
    EQ1 - 55 Barb Warrior - 2000, 2001
Tried: DaoC, DDO, Auto Assault, SWG, Lineage II

I was in the same boat as you not to long ago. I recently got married (9 mos ago) and now have a baby on the way and have even less time for gaming. I had played WoW but once hitting lvl 60 didn't have the time for the timesink that is the endgame content. Quit after 2 lvl 60s, a lvl 45, and a lvl 30. Total time invested was about 8 months of gameplay which included 5 months before I got married. I tried EVE and it wasn't for me. Tried CoV/CoH got really boring really fast (1.5 mos). There was just too much repetition. Have tried serveral free/beta/trials for games and hadn't found anything worthwhile. Then a few months ago, I dusted off my copy of Guild Wars that I had purchased when it released but never played. For somebody that only has an hour or two here and there, can't play everyday, and wants a quality game its perfect. I have been playing nothing but GW, got into a great guild (which I found using MMORPG.com's GW Guild forums), and have couldn't be happier. Really looking forward to the GW:Factions release at the end of April.

Dude if you want a GREAT game that you can be casual and solo forget MMOs, go buy Oblivion. It's as good as any MMO (better than most) and you don't have to put up with tards and see Chuck Norris jokes in general chat.

I'd suggest you try NWN, too.
Different servers gives differences gaming experience, you can log on everything from the huge world of hardcore RP(400+ areas, .hak paks of 500-1000mb. Thats custom made content) PW's, to the fast and furious PvP servers.

When it comes to gaming experiences, my most rich one was probaly Narfell, a NWN PW. I played on it for 2 years. While not being the biggest world, it had a nice and mature community, 60 slots open for players(+10 for DM's), hardcore RP rules that encouraged non-farming/sitting down and chatting, and such.

If you want MMORPG's, i'll recommend EVE. While playing solo will get boring pretty quickly(Mine mine mine do agent misions, rinse and repeat), getting a decent Corp. would make it alot more interresting.
