40k square km!!! lol j/k since they are going to re-re-release Dark and Light.
I always liked Age of Wushu, can't wait to try the sequel. I was a perma Vagrant. Hopefully the UI and player integration is better. I had a hard time getting into it because of how difficult it was to learn what things mean. It was written in hard to understand Engrish using a poor UI.
The mmoculture article is sort of misleading - actually there is no designated starting area in AoW2 - the birth place of a new character can be in any region.
Jiangnan area is introduced first because this is where Suzhou, the hometown of SnailGames is located.
The world of AoW is consist of a number of regions and movement across regions is seamless in the same way as WoW (ie Jiangnan can be compared as a region in Wow like Ashenvale).
There are two major cities in Jiangnan in original Age of Wushu (AoW1) Jinling and Suzhou. The distance between the two cities in real world is approximately 200km, so we can work out that the AoW2 has a map scale of roughly 1:25.
If we continue with this scaling the distance of Shanghai (East) to Chengdu (Sichuan area West China) in AoW2 is 64 kms. So the map of AoW2 at launch should be more than 60km from East to West.
The game world of AoW2 is designed to be smaller but more build-up at start compared to DnL but still without GPS or any kind of overhead map marker.
