Haven't been following the game much. It's not surprising though that all kinds of players are up in arms about what's not in there. Just reading some of the posts on this forum for this game I have seen players have crazy high expectations. You could see it wasn't going to end well for them without ever seeing the game.

Watching the review though it looks like it would be a great base to build on for another game. Mass Effect for instance would probably benefit from a system like this. Wonder why they didn't sell it to another company and let them flesh it out more.

Have they said they aren't going to continue development. I honestly don't know. I'm guessing they should be able to see that this is the baseline for a really good game and continue extensive development.

Good review. I think I'll hold off on this game until they add some more combat things to do and more of everything else.

Sean Murray originally said that Hello Games would consider producing more content for NMS if the game sold well.

It appears that the game did in fact sell well, and post launch comments indicate that HG is definitely going to continue working on NMS.

Some would say that just the "cut content" (seen in demo's but not in the launch version) would already be sufficient to fill several DLC's, lol

And that's not even counting the new features that have been promised (owning freighters and base building)...

The game in my view isnt even a good baseline

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Good review, Ive had more fun with NMS than other recent releases of the same genre but wow, this game needs work. If I had to describe it in one word it would be 'barebones'.

Only thing good about the game is being able to fly from space to planet surface and back again.
Everything else about the game is simply tedious, shallow, repetitive, and pointless.
Even the procedurally generated planets. Once you've seen on barren, mushroom planet, you've literally seen all of them. The only thing unique is how the terrain is place, even animals start to look alike from being mashed together from the same small number of assets. Plants are the same from planet to planet, you'll literally see the same flora from one planet to another, after another, and another.

The game could have been scaled back to just one or two solar systems, and nothing would be lost. The whole 18000000000000 planets actually becomes a hindrance, what good is cataloging if you're the only person that will ever see what you cataloged and named.

Reaching the center is pointless. It's just a reset in another galaxy, with no upgrading because chances are you've already got all suit slots unlocks, the best gun, and the highest slot ship. So you're working towards entering a new galaxy where there will be even less chance that someone would actually see the things you've discovered.

Discovery losses it's impact when there is no way to share your discoveries in the game world, due to the .0002% chance that someone has of coming along and see what another player has discovered. Even more pointless when there is no potential for any meaningful interaction between people when that moment actually does occur.

"A good base" isn't even fair. No one expects to spend full price for a wholey unfinished game, because it's "a good base" to build on. You build on a complete game that charges full price, or you build on an early access game that doesn't charge full price, but you do not charge full price for an incomplete game.

But mostly, you do not take it for "just what is there" because the game was not sold based on "just what is there" it was sold based on what was SAID to be in there, and most of that content is not there.

This is the most blatantly misleading and deceptive marketing campaign I've experienced in video games, and it's absolutely infuriating that I can not get my money back because I spent more than 2 hours in the game. A game that will require far more than 2 hours before you start to notice the sheer amount of content that was said to exist, that simply does not.

For as much hate as the game gets I think that is surprisingly high.
I haven't bought it, I haven't played it, I wasn't hyped for it, I loved Minecraft, I enjoyed Space Engineers, I'll be avoiding this one though. I don't hate the game, but I've seen the interviews, I've see what the developers said and I think they straight up lied right to people's faces.

That said, 51% positive, IMO, is not good considering the anticipation for this game. And as far as 17th most played....Let's put a little context into that. Looking at Steamcharts over the past week, the game's popularity has plummeted. So, 17th today out of context can look good, unless it was 14th yesterday, and 12th the day before. (BTW, in just the span of this conversation, it's already dropped to 18th.)

for me I dont find anything in the game play that is compelling and would suggest to me 'seanmcad, dont play Elite, imperium or Space Engineeers today instead play NMS because.....plants?......relaxing?...i got nothing

The drop off is the normal curve for most games. In fact most games don't score that highly. Think about what you've said in your post and then look at the games surrounding it, how many hours they have played, how many average concurrent players it has, and the peak all time concurrency. It has beat out, with regards to hours and concurrency, well known contemporaries produced by AAA teams. All of those game have had similar drop offs.
I don't understand the point you are making here. What I am saying is that the game's standing is more or less meaningless at this point. 7th, 17th or 107th. What does it matter right now since it has yet to stabilize?
