What are you talking about?  Factions was alot of fun and it can only get better because that was just a preview event.
  • BentBent Member CommonPosts: 581

I say "OK" too. It plays as mostly more of the same. Just different ways. Not bad. Yet if you are already tired of Phophets it's not that shockingly different. If it took you 3months to grow tired of phophets expect to grow tired of Factions in about 2 weeks or so. If your still having a ball with Phophets then I'm sure you'll be thrilled with Factions.

I think most of the things people have asked for; improvements to trade and chats will come to everyone not just Factions owners.

:).. at least Guild Wars is going Upwards not downwards like other games nowadays (SWG anyoneimage)

Give it a break this is anet's first game (dont flame me if its not just tell me) not like Blizzard's 7th decent game and S.O.E's 100th game (I dunno how many but its a veteran group)

So I think its doing great for a low budget game

Please, don't compare with SWG, it's a completely different situation.

Factions was a brilliant preview. I think the main reason people were so hyped up about it was they expected too much. It was just a preview and the real game will be as big as the original if not bigger because of the extra proffesions.

I thought it was more than ok, but not amazing or anything. I especially loved the visuals...they were stunning

"ok" isn't an insult. I sure 90% of MMO companies would love to be defined as "ok" Factions is just more options, not really an improvement. In order to keep balance expansions are going to have to be equalvalent to all the previous guild wars. Equalvalent means more of the same, just wrapped differently. Game improvements will come as patches not expansions, or certain people would have unfair advantages.

I'm joking about the poll, it just reversed its self from yesterday, so few votes and all.

The alliance battles were frankly a dissapointment. They were mostly disorganized zergfests where the 12 guys didnt know what the hell they were doing and there was no way to really communicate with such a large group of random people. When guild wars factions advertized large "alliance" battles i thought this meant that we could actually organize and form alliances and then enter the missions. Not be forced into random groups where at best we had 1 organized group of 4. I hope this improves or changes in some way for release or i will be even more dissapointed.

What i did enjoy was the pve content though. The environments were fresh enough to keep the same ol quests interesting. And the new competitive missions were small and focused enough that the randomness of the teams didnt seem to take away from them.

All in All a mixed bag for for the preview but it could be stunning if they fix a few things.

People seem to not get it through their heads that this was a preview event judge everything soley on the limited amount we got to see. There is a lot more and a lot can be improved as time goes on. I say be gratefull that GW was nice enough to let ever have a chance to preview it first for free.

    My opinions on it:
    * Alliance battles, they were good, I had some fantastic battles in it. Down to 5points diff. And dont worry bout MMs, there is anti MM skills, but few had it unlocked thats all. I loved the 4+4+4 idea, my guilds already got build for it setup now and in testing.
    * PvE PvP, even better than alliance battles, so much fun and so many new things to learn and do.
    * New Areas, some amazing things in there, I had a few gfx bugs but the GW devs knew of them.
    * Music, okay so I barely heard any that wasnt broken by the new sound engine, never the less they have 1 month to fix it.
    * World, I must say, the world was way way way way to easy. The world in the preview was also bias, but once again the devs knew of it but it did cause some issues. So, on the Luxon side it was easy to get to PvE, so they played that, but it was hard for Kurzicks so they played pvp, which is why the long wait times.

I think there are some major major major changes that need to be added, and I dont think they will, especialy the redesign of town capturing, but we can hope.

  • BentBent Member CommonPosts: 581

Yes, it was a preview. But do any of us expect anything "new" or "fresh" to be put into Factions before it releases?

The only thing new in Factions was Alliance battles and 2 new classes. The missions and quests are just about the sames as the stuff in GWP. Anything else that is "new" will likley come as a patch to everyone not just Factions owners.

I mean if they add in 5 new kinds of PvP for Factions people only, then all people that don't buy factions, will find trying find people to PvP with harder.

There is are a conflict between GvG and alliance battles. That is guilds that aren't factions enabled can only GvG while guilds that are will have want to do both. This will result in the GvG matching service probably taken longer to match teams. Since instead of all guilds doing GvG maybe only 50% will be doing GvG will 50% are doing alliance battles at one time.

Erg Lets say 50 guild are looking for a GvG match right now. After faction it will probably change to 25 guilds looking to GvG and the other 25 doing alliance. Thus it could take longer for GvG matches to spawn.

  • AckbarAckbar Member UncommonPosts: 927
The alliance battles are 4+4+4 that would be ideal but it rarely happens.... Most battles i was in were 4+8 other noobs. How can you even think about forming a strategy when the majority of the team you are on arent involved in its plan? At this point i still feel the alliance battles are flawed and unless we can actually form a 12 man party before entering i dont see how this can be remedied.

As I understand it from my Faction source, Alliance groups were only random for the FWE. In the future the groups will be made up of members of your alliance only. So kinda like GvG but factions style.

    Well here you go folks
    http://www.guildwars.com/aboutgw/networknews/default.php

GW had 12 hours of downtime so far sense release. 10 of those hours came last week, when a rollback had to occur. For a FREE to Play game that is insane.
    """"
    Guild Wars Server Maintenance

Guild Wars will be unavailable during scheduled maintenance on March 30th from 00:00 PST (08:00 GMT) and 04:00 PST (12:00 GMT).

Unfortunately the Guild Wars database servers experienced a hardware failure that prevents them from operating properly, and in order to restore functionality we need to replace several components. We apologize for any inconvenience this maintenance may cause, and hope to have Guild Wars running again in short order.

For those folks with a technical bent, and for those who'd just like to know more about why we're taking such a long outage after almost a year with no scheduled maintenance, read on:

Because Guild Wars is a global game, where players from anywhere in the world can play against other gamers from any other location on the globe, there's really no good time to schedule maintenance because there isn't an idle period; there are always players from some part of the world enjoying the game. We've therefore strived to minimize the number of scheduled maintenance periods, and we've been largely successful.

While we have had several brief, unplanned outages in the nearly one year since the launch of Guild Wars, by and large we've been able to keep the game running continuously. We've had approximately twelve hours of downtime this year, ten hours of which was due to the unfortunate (but necessary) database rollback. Though the database rollback took quite a while to complete, the rollback only removed one hour of progress from character advancement, though we do realize that players lost their time, and for that we wholeheartedly apologize.

This outage is intended to allow us to perform some critical maintenance on our database infrastructure. In order to ensure that Guild Wars is always available, we purchased quite a lot of redundant server hardware (also known as clusters). The clusters are designed so that, if one part fails, another part is capable of taking over the load. Instead of one computer for a given task, there are two computers, each with multiple network cards, power-supplies, drive interface controllers, disk arrays, and all sorts of other components. While this is expensive, it's really the only way to ensure that the network continues to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

A simple analogy is that it's like having two lightbulbs (with two power supplies and two switches) to keep a room lit. If one bulb burns out, there's still time to change it before the room goes dark, unless the other bulb burns out at the same time, of course...

In the past we've had several successful cluster failovers, but unfortunately this time not everything worked as desired. Basically, one disk controller went bad, and even after replacing the controller we can't get the silly thing to come back again. To ensure that we don't have a catastrophic failure, we're taking down everything on Thursday morning (Pacific Time) so that we can replace the broken components and bring everything back to fully functioning service.

We've alloted four hours for the maintenance, and we certainly hope that it will take less time. We know that a lot of folks won't be able to play Guild Wars during that time period, but we hope that everyone will understand the necessity. We'll look forward to seeing you back in the game a little later in the day.""""

i never played guild wars before, but i want to start and im a dilema: buy current gw or wait for factions?

cause if i buy it now, maybe a lot of ppl will go for factions and current will be worse

but if i wait to buy factions, ill have to wait a whole month to play and maybe its not that suceessful, and current gw could be better

    any sugestions?

  • AckbarAckbar Member UncommonPosts: 927
buy both. Get current now play it through when factions comes get it and play that....

I didn't play much of it, but I "loved" the ritualist class, it's someting different, and great fun. Also the new perks with PvP is brilliant.

  • StumpyStumpy Member Posts: 32

Yes I voted for it was amazing because of the Alliance battles me and my friends are addicted to them...and the new skins for the weapons like Oni Blade and Runic Axe are so much betetr then skins now.
Also new PvE content is good I hated the Black Moa quest tho (Kurzick)

    I have pre-ordered game can't wait for April 28!!::::31::

The existance of GvG and Alliance battles is probably going to encourage larger and more organized guilds.  Not just groups of, say, 12 people, 8 core players and 4 bench warmers in case someone can't make it, but perhaps we might see larger guilds that might do GvG and Alliance battles simultaneously.

Then again... The 100 person limit on a guild can be limiting.  Even guilds that have 100 people might only have 10 or so on at a time, some of which are PvEing.

    mirolho your concern is warrented.

The first guild wars (phophets) is already pretty empty in certain PvE
parts.  Once Factions comes out I only expect it to get worse.  But
every MMO has this problem.  As everyone moves to the end game the
early game areas become empty.  So a year or so down the road you'll
probably have to solo your way through the phophets areas unless you
make a friend or have a guild push you through it.

man ... i need to call you ROTFLOLCOPTER NOOB WOW PLAYER 10 YEAR OLD WARRIOR

    factions preview was a blast

i dont see any other mmo reach guildwars soon

    keep trying

  • BentBent Member CommonPosts: 581

    Are you dense?

I said... if you like Prophets you'll like factions.  If you didn't
like Prophets you likely won't like Factions.  If you grew tired of
Prophets you'll grow tired of Factions more rapidly then a completely noob
player would.   Factions is >80% the same thing as Prophets, but
it has to be since it is a stand alone product and not an expansion per se.'

Considering, you can "finish" Prophets in a week.  And that
Factions only introduces two new classes... (so all you need is one run through
to unlock the skills instead of three), you should be able to be
"finished" the new stuff in Factions in about a week.  Maybe
quicker assuming you'll be able to bring your Char+skills and items/money/faction
from Prophets to help you out.  Save up 20 skill points and 20k and 10k
faction and you can buy most of the new skills for the old classes on day 1.

So IF you are tired of Prophets and only want Factions because it's “new”, you
should be able to “finish” all the new stuff within two weeks, and then you'll
be back to where you were at.

To the above poster I would ask “Have you even played “Prophets,”
or even know what it is?”  If you do, you’re
just foolish for reacting differently then all of the other posters in this
topic.  If you haven’t played Prophets or
are purely unaware of it, do us all a favor and bow out now.  Or at least stop fantasizing about Chuck
Norris long enough to type a competent reply with both hands.
