I have been playing for over a week now and the game is growing on me.
I like that it is group based, even tho at times it is hard to find a group (make a cleric everyone loves you).
I like the progression rate and quest based exp, it is very satisfying to level.
It is close enough to the D&D rules, not perfect but close.
I thought that I would grow tired of doing the same dungeons several times, and for several characters, but strangely I havent. Each class makes each dungeon a different experience that I am enjoying.
The trigger based combat is actually quite good fun, and even tho I am in australia with a longer latency I dont have many prolems with it, even blocking seems to work. My worst problems were with my pc stalling.
The strangest part is the built-in voice chat, all those american accents... but an absolute MUST for this game where traps are a real danger and rogues very useful.
I also like that each class brings their own skills and abilities and have an impact on how a group functions.
Negatives: bit too much running back and forth to heal etc. Quite a few interface improvements are needed or need quickening (or maybe I need to read the rule book). Faster grouping method, possibly an auto form a group option. People seem to like standing around waitin for others to grab them. An auto form-a-group option would just dump people in and get them moving... auto-assign a quest also, how long do you have to wait while everyone says 'whadyawannnadonow' 'anythingisfinebyme'.

Dude, you like totally left us Californians out.
=============================
It all seems so stupid
It makes me want to give up
But why should I give up
When it all seems so stupid
You forgot Southern Missouri too.
They are all weird
Heh, all the various American accents are even wierd to us Americans.
It's good to hear that people are enjoying this game though. I liked it a lot in beta, but a few of my friends decided they didn't want to play it after they made a bunch of rogue changes at the end.
Personally, I'm waiting to see if they do any content patches like they do/did with AC and AC2. I wouldn't expect them to be able to churn out a whole new dungeon every month since their dungeons are so freaking awesome. But it would be nice to know what their future plans are.
I haven't been keeping track of any official posts and stuff, so maybe they've already announced something but I don't know.
sorry to hijack the thread but i dont want to start my own
Well i've finally gotten the game a few days ago... I started on a sorceror, liked the controls, interface, whatnot. And started blasting things with my spells, but after i got to the inn(the one in the harbor, not the island) I had trouble with that mish, LOTS of trouble, in fact it was a flat out pwnage. Dieing 8 times or more , not because of the actual combat, but having enough mana to kill everything, just had to rely on lucky rolls, and doing enough damage so i didnt have to cast more then 1 spell(ended up having to use my xbow to gaurantee kills).
Earned like 39 pp from doing it and mushroom gathering and whatnot. But it wasn't fun, i finally finished it and kept going on. It got better, but it was still kinda hard, having to pull multiple mobs into burning hands to kill enough on a mana-kill ratio. But i had to repeatedly leave missions to rest because my mana simply won't hold up in a run(no clue where to buy pots).
Needless to say... i stopped him at lvl 1 rank 3... i just couldn't bring myself to continue...
Then i rolled a barbarian.... wow.
It was just so much better, killing mobs quicker, lasting longer, and no need to worry about using all my mana and being unable to kill anything. Have a friend who made a fighter and we were playing together and i enjoyed the game... but i really don't know if im going to continue. I like the game now, but i don't know if i will keep liking it.
I noticed this too - at any given time there are 20-30 LFG on my server, there's at least 2-3 groups in there just waiting for someone to take the initiative.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Enjoy it while it lasts...you have about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks left before you are bored and give it up. I suppose 3 weeks isn't bad for a game though (if it was a single player non-pay2play of course)
Well I can't agree with your statement. Many have quit already, many are playing new characters but many have not quit. That's a normal function of mmog's as people jump into games because they are new and quickly move on when it's not what they want. I started on day one (and was in the beta) and I love the game more every day. For me it's the constant challenge of facing quests with new folks that makes the game exciting. For instance a few weeks ago a trip through irestone inlet was a breeze and a return to it yesterday with another character meant a 2 hour marathon of survival and eventual success. DDO is a good game but it's the people you adventure with that makes it new each day and makes the game addictive. One thing I've noticed is that many are not cut out for interacting with others or lack the detemination to hang in when things aren't going well. DDO takes lots of things to succeed: an adventurous spirit, experience to build characters that work well and patience to adventure with those that haven't yet mastered the basics of the game.
The thing is, you can get that challenge you mentioned in most, if not all, MMORPGs. Again I'll mention GW; sometimes you'll breeze through a quest, sometimes it will be the height of farce to watch, and attempt to guide, an inept group through even the easiest of missions. So to me that's exactly the same experience as you're talking about DDO giving you.
The difference is that OTHER MMORPGs have MUCH MUCH more content, in DDO you are forced to repeat the same things over and over thus reducing the challenge, not increasing it.
Anyway, I'm glad you're happy with it, and I don't wish its doom by any means! I just don't think it's got more than 3 weeks enjoyment in it as it currently stands, and with the extra 15 missions, that's up to about 3 1/2 weeks enjoyment.
