additionally when talking about properties of a genre its not good to refer to properties that exist in a great many other genres. its missleading.

Not only is 'single player' not part of a space building genre most of those games have multiplayer anyway so its a mute point

Man different games are to be played for different reasons overall. Ofc NMS does not compare to games like the others mentioned, because the gameplay elements of building / multiplayer / pvp that are another universe from NMS's universe. Though they were very requested for NMS and i see several people frustrated about them not being on it.

The way i do it is to look at the most important features, the features that people seem to express the most about. In the case of NMS is 1. procedurally generated universe 2. seemless planetary landing 3. exploration.

I tend to focus on requirement 1 and 2 because those are the two that are most often refered to as the 'technical innovation that nobody has done before' thus the space games I look for I try to make sure it has planetary landings that are seemless and some level of procedural generation.

Planet Nomads looks promising but then again so did no man's sky before they released it and we found out they lied about 80% of the games features, since they just aren't there. Is a long post on reddit showing the dev team biliantly lying about features that were in the game, yet when it released most of them were not there. I am worryed Planet Nomads is the same, so I plan to wait, I wanna see if it gets procedurally generated planets and such, So far though it looks way better than No Man's Sky.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

its a very good idea to not get excited about upcoming games including Planet Nomads. Even more so given that there are two very good space building games that are very similar to PLanet Nomads that you can play today.

I like Planet Nomads because the team behind the game are not promising the moon, stars and entire galaxy for delivery 6 months from now... :D

The game will not be multiplayer initially, but they are promising to develop that functionality later.

Their plan gives me confidence, because it shows that they are realistic in their goals. The difference between developing a single-player game and a multiplayer version is significant.

I don't think that is a rational comparison, while NMS is a hot mess right now I think Empyrion is outright bad. Planet Nomads looks like it could be fun though.

Yeah i am waiting and not backing yet, the Closed Alpha should be soon and then we can see better all the tech and tidbits they shown till now merging onto a proper gameplay experience.

If they have buildings with proper physics and such i'm happy, i'm tired of games like this that take the Minecraft approach to physics.

I can not stress enough how important it is to try and avoid paying attention to news related to a game that is not currently out. Future playing always goes poorly.

I suggest either Space Engineers or Empyrion both very solid games. I perfer Space Engineers myself.

There are too many options in the market right now to be salivating over the future which very well may not ever happen

There is unsurprisingly in these forums far to much attention being paid to future games at the expensive for current games one can play now

But hey all that stuff they promised at launch you will now be able to buy in the paid dlc coming soon to the game.

Where have all the nms threads gone?  I honestly thought the game would keep people occupied longer than a week or two.

Im still enjoying Empyrion after a couple weeks (although with decreased playtime).

well my rant of how there are better options in market is being completely buried with a new logic of 'a game being good or bad is 100% dependent on nothing other than if the developer lied or not'

just to let you know its currently doing very poorly on Steam
unfortunately however the vast majority of it is because of the lie question not 'would the game even be good in the first place if said features where there' which is the conversation I am more intrested in

Well Planet Nomads as a closed alpha (tech demo) out to play, shows a quite interesting base tech layer that has more potential on my opinion than Empyrion.

For other similar games you also have Starbound.

I don't think it is doing poorly on Steam at all for a niche Indie game regardless of the hype Sony pumped into it. It had more peak players today than:
    7 Days to Die
    Path of Exile
    Starbound
    Rimworld (Which is amazing btw)
    Elite: Dangerous
    Dark Souls 3
    and so on....

    Plus GOG and the PS4
I played it for two hours today (GOG)
Then I bought Albion Online so...yeah fun MMO FTW! lol

I am sorry but there is no way I am accepting 'a niche game'.

whoever pumped up the hype the hype WORKED. meaning the people who were excited about the game were exicted about the game and that was more people then what would make it a 'niche' game

Actually after all the refunds and chargebacks the population has probably leveled off to niche game status. ;)
no I would not agree at all.

people where sold an idea, people liked that idea. the idea is what makes it 'niche' or not. if people found the idea unintresting (which they did not) then it could be argued but no, a lot of people were sold into the idea, liked the idea, wanted the idea.

its not niche because of that

We can agree to disagree. It is a niche game that was incorrectly marketed to a mainstream audience.  There really is nothing to debate about that. Cheers!
    that is absolutely wrong.

and I would add it comes off as an attempt to re-define history
