So now we have early access games selling DLC before the game is even released...

The innovation of game maker , mostly in how to make money .

So what?  It's not like it's compulsory to buy it.  If people don't want it or disapprove of it, just don't buy it.  If some people want to buy it, good luck to them.  It's a trivial amount of money anyway.

I purchased it and am enjoying Scorched Earth a lot. In my opinion Ark is one of the better games to come out so far this decade and if I can get more time in it, after already putting over 1000 hours in, I'll raise my cost investment up to 45 dollars which is less than any AAA game.

Now I do agree that releasing DLC when the game is still in early access is a bit skeevy, BUT.... many of the new mechanics added in this DLC are required for the games intended direction at release. So basically, they were releasing the DLC regardless, the only difference is now they don't have to intentionally hold back development during early access in order release the game play elements.

This is just semantics, quibbling over minutia. Money creates games. The relevant ratio is gameplay to dollar.

Paid DLC for an early access game does seem crazy but ARK is such a good game and most who play it get so many hours of enjoyment that I guess I can live with it.

Gameplay to dollar often is worthwhile, but it is far from a universal metric of worth.

I beat Bastion in about 3-4 hours, including many of the sidequests. Even at the sharply reduced price I paid for the steam sale, that's not a good ratio. However, I found the game so endearing and heartwrenching towards the end that I considered it money well spent.
