Are there any games out there that have a structured large-scale PvP system like DAoC without the horrible grinding to get to higher levels? I love the RvR aspects of DAoC but just don't have the time or energy to grind a character to 50. I'm play WoW now but the group PvP just isn't as exciting. There's no real large-scale territorial battles. Just constantly raiding the same areas.
Any suggestions on a good replacement for WoW?

Try shadowbane, though there is a good chance its closing and it suffers from a shitty engine and multiple account buffbots(ppl have two or more sb clients running on one computer in order to buff their toons) which are needed in order to live for more the 5 seconds in pvp, its still free and you can get to a decent level or even max level in 5 days or so days in wrath server or in any other server really.
Its free so you got nothing to lose...assuming your toon is buffed though pvp, gvg and nation vs nation can be alot of fun.

Just read any of the 20 threads like this that's been made in the past 3 days and you'll get an idea of EVE.

You might consider Planetside. It's not swords and sorcery but it's PVP and team tactics. You can setup a Reserve account and play for free for a year.

SnaKey how could you even suggest EVE if the first thing he says is he doesn't want a game where he has to wait to grind up for PVP.
I played EVE for the entire 14 day trial. I saw about 5 minutes of actual PVP in the game, even when I went into the "dangerous" areas. It was fun for a bit, but space isn't really my thing.
Off the thread topic (a bit) but just to vent:
I've seen a trend in most MMO's that are out now (or coming out soon, 3rd gen my *ss). PvP is either gank-land style free-for-alls or seriously gimped versions of the same thing designed for set groups of players. Safe vs. unsafe zones? Done. "Contested" areas that are really 90% in control of one side or the other? Fun for about 10 minutes. True large-scale PvP that has an actual impact on the world around it and on other players besides the ones actually fighting? Go grind in DAoC for 6 months first, or... *tumbleweed rolls past*
Who would NOT want a PvP system that rewards hard (yet extremely fun) work by a significant portion of the player community in a lasting fashion rather than mindless, sophomoric ganking of any weaker player that you come across? I want my PvP to mean something. Not just for me, but for my friends and guildmates. A new ability for backstabbing the newest lamb caster is nice, but I'd much rather stand on top of a wall screaming "YOU WANT YOUR D*MN CASTLE, WELL COME AND GET IT!" to a fleeing enemy.
Sadly DAoC, is the only large scale pvp game of it's kind.. sure there is shadowbane which has possibly one of the worst control systems i've came across in a game. You have Eve which is supposed to be good but it isn't for everyone and you can spend literally months getting loads of money for a nice ship and lose it in seconds. Some love that but it's a bit silly imo.
Guild wars offers structured teambased pvp (and possibly the best,) you can get to max level in a week easily but it's all instanced outside the cities and it offers absolutely no large scale pvp. I wouldn't recommend this really but if you got enough money, it's probably worth picking up as it doesn't have a monthly fee.
If you're into fps games or prepared to give them a try, I really would recommend planetside, it features LARGE scale pvp and it really is something special but it isn't for everyone. Star Wars Galaxies would have been perfect for you back when it was at it's best as the pvp was some of the best i've witnessed but now the servers are practically dead and pointless.
Other outside bets are probably Lineage 2 which offers fantastic pvp but suffers from being grindy. RF Online is very similar to lineage 2 but 10 times worse (imo and others would disagree.)
I would personally stick with DAoC, with the catacombs expansion, it isn't really all that grindy and if you can find some kind level 50s, you will go up in levels very fast.
But, I don't understand if you're one of those "I'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR 5MIN AND I WANT TO BE UBER POWERFUL AND PVP EVERYONE IN THE GAME!" That just doesn't work.
And in response to the rest of your post, EVE has a true impact on the game other than those involved PVP. They actually form the storyline around actual game happenings.
