I don't imagine how someone could play WoW and not get its newest expansion...

So basically, 3.3 Million is their total subscribers number / player base.

I would say no.  At least not until they decide to release WoW 2.  There are millions that still play and love the game.  I still play it time to time.  It is in my rotation of games I go through.  Right now it is on track to making a huge comeback, Legion was a step in the right direction for the game, IMO.

I see a lot of people in trade ask EVERY DAY if they should get it, because they're on the fence.
    Mainly because WoD under delivered.

I have to admit this has been the first expansion where we all were not yelling and screaming at the monitor because we couldn't log in on the day of release, this has been by far the most stable expansion release even though the first few days had some pretty good lag that has been corrected. Also the content has been just great and made leveling alts fun again and not just another leveling grind..

If you bother to read the blizzard post you will see that they sold 3.3 million through launch date and pre order , and that the number of subscribers are just little lower then in peak during cataclysm so something little lower than 12.7 million. So there is more depressed people then in other top 10 mmorpg combined ...

They had to make it a perfect launch, no updates for a very long time so this DLC needed to be perfect or players would really leave but now permenant, and they had the time for it aswell

Maybe. In 10 years or so. Probably about 5 years after EQ, which would be apt.

Well no. Just look at the older expansions first day sales. With your thinking after Wotlk, Cataclysm should sold 12m on the first day but it sold 3.3m just like the Legion. So again no, you are wrong.

For WoW to die, there player base need to drop below 20K or less. That's not going happen for many years until Blizzard gives up on it.

Concurrent players not subscribers. And - as with all games - player engagement is highest when a new game or xpac launches.

Nor is it a like for like comparison. Legion has launched everywhere. Cataclysm had a staggered launch - China was about 8 months later for example. Indeed since Cataclysm WoW has launched in new countries as well.

Not saying the numbers are not good, just warning that one has to keep things in context.

We will see in a couple months how thinks really play out. I tried getting into it but the game just feels old even with all the latest updates.

I set up a garbage can across the parking lot and have been trying to throw rocks into it. That is more fun than what I have had in WoW the past couple of years. ;)

3.3 million is a good number. We will never know the subscriber base though, since Blizzard stopped reporting it. Many people gave up after WoD though. That was pretty much WoW's last chance to keep any sort of retention prior to MoP.

I've smashed the expansion but now I have nothing else to do other than world quests and Mythic dungeons once a week. If they don't keep up with providing regular content, people are going to get bored very very soon. 1 raid on the horizon and progressive mythic dungeons isn't going to save it. Basically you have world quests which, make no mistake, are just daily quests presented differently and dungeons.

100-110 is too quick. Artifact grind isn't very compelling..

I like the expansion but they push you through it so fast that you quickly run out of things to do.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

WoW does seem to have totally nailed the rubber band effect, probably we will see Subs have risen again to between 10 and 12 million, but we all know that in 3 months time, it will be back down to 5 million again, still makes it bigger than the other MMO's out there, so WoW isn't failing, at least not yet, but it is past its peak, though perhaps they could shock us all and still have 7+ million subs in 3 months time
Either way its bad news for the WoW haters, game isn't dead, it isn't dying, doesn't even seem to be having a sniffle or two, in fact, it seems to be doing pretty well, just have to see how this expansion works out for them, and of course, the inevitable wait for the next expansion :p

Lol I agree with the above the haters are livid.

Mad because WOW is still going strong, mad because people are still having fun playing the game.

There are some mmo I don't like but wishing an mmo would die because you don't like it is pretty pathetic. Poor little haters.

You may have smashed through it but your knowledge of what they have in store for wow is wrong. There is 4 raids on the horizon, Nighthold/Emerald Nightmare/Tombs of Saragas and the mini raid. Add to that the release of the mega dungeon Karazan coming in 7.1 and even more to come after all that is released, as far as pushing you through to quickly and not having anything to do is just personal preference on how you play the game, there are achievments/mounts/pets/rep/transmog and other forms of content that people enjoy about the game, not just lets rush to max level and wait for stuff.

If WoW had really solved the rubber band effect though we would be in "total awe".

Blizzard's player base - mostly - is not some millions a chunk of whom drift away and then come back for an expansion; it is - mostly - a brand new player base.

Yes its reasonable to assume that some people stay subbed forever; yes its reasonable to assume that some people do return to WoW after a break when an expansion launches say.

WoW's triumph though is that it has continued to sell down the years - over 100M sold.

On average hundreds of thousands have bought WoW each month. And hundreds of thousands have left each month. An ebb and flow. Sure there will be one year vets and five year vets but Legion doesn't have 100M+. Its not the rubber banding they have nailed the triumph is getting new players in.

Considered as a series of releases WoW is a member of a small group of games many of which sit at the core of today's major publishers: Mario, Donkey Kong, Sonic, Mortal Kombat, Battle Field, Call of Duty, Fallout, Civilisation, Elder Scrolls and so on. These are giants. Long lasting. Huge sellers. Your Hall of Famers.

Wow will never die but it will eventualy fade out and be forgotten..i has seen the future in my tea cup with green leafs turning to ash. :p

    3.3m subies from 12 mill in total..wauw mann..just golfclaps*

What i dislike about this game is that they took all the skills and made em spec based, so you have less skill in 1 build and most constant respec/change builds because you get tired of 5 dps skill and 10 tools skills...Its just "deerp" to remove all these skills and put em in to 3 diferent builds

Obviously your tea cup is providing you with all the wrong stats. WoW is well over 3.3 million subs still. That was just the number of sales within 24 hours of release.
