Elder Scrolls Online News - The Elder Scrolls Online public test server has been updated with an incremental patch that brings, among other things, the hotly debated Crown Crates into the game for testing. This gives interested players a look at how the crates will function and what items may be included in them.

    Players are still playing this game after they charge you for the base game and expansions? Now they offer subscribers benefits over non members? Plus they have a store now with crates ? Damn this game has more chit to pay for then any other f2P game i know..

    Also, as far as value goes, I'm not sure what you're complaining about. What are we talking about? 15-20 hours of content? I've paid more for full games that take less time to complete. If you can't see value in that then I'm not sure what you've been playing. 

    As far as subscribers go, they should offer incentives to subscribers. Why wouldn't they? Plus, if you subscribe you get DLC for free on top of getting crowns every month. Same deal as SWTOR. Actually SWTOR also gives me a free character boost if I subscribe too. 

    I'm sorry, but if you want to incriminate ESO for something, focus on the subject at hand being the crates, because everything else they do is pretty fair and expected.

    Anothee who dont know what he is talking about. Its hilarious to read how retards keep talking about games they know nothing about. Besides that it still surprises me people think games like mmos can be run without profit. Zenimax have found some of the best ways to earn money and at the same time give their players value. For those who keeps whining about gamecompanies earning money, you need to wake up and understand how the economic money-wheel works or sit down, suck your thump with a pink diper tied around your face singing "kumbaja".

    This is why we cannot have nice things and the good games die and AAA companies have said sayonara to this genre because players just don't want any type of monetization that might impact on anything they want to own. If it is some shitty looking cosmetic item they will never buy it is fine but anything they might actually want must all be free .

    ESO is now 30$ + Gold Edition is 50$. So for 80$ you can get the whole game and 4 main DLCs. No sub needed.

    WoW on the other hand is 20$ + Legion 50$ + 180$ sub yearly. You end up paying 250$.

    Now why the hell would someone spend 3x more to play WoW rather than ESO?  Hell if pricing was the other way around, it would make more sense (based on a huge quality difference between the games). Anyways, your argument is invalid.

    If no one wanted these in the game if you do not buy them as in know one does is the only way they will be gone from games. But theirs always people willing to pay for it so it will not happen.

    Not a surprise as it was easy to see this company was all about the bottom line anyways.  Next they'll probably make leveling harder and sell instant level scrolls, probably around the time housing comes out.

    I haven't bought any crown crates in the PTS with our "play crown" allotment myself (they're giving anyone on the PTS 5,000 PTS-only crowns per day for this purpose) but I have been following those who have. Here are some of the details:

    • The drop rate of "collectibles" (costumes, polymorphs, mounts, etc.) seems to be ~ 10%
    • About 70% of those collectibles from the crates are new, never before seen in the Crown Store things
    • Some of the consumables that come from the crates are much better than the ones you can buy straight up with crowns. For example, the crown-crate accelerated experience scrolls give you +150% XP whereas the regular ones and the in-game crafted ones give you +50%.
    • They've added an in-game cutscene for the purpose of openning the crates as seen in the mini-review video below:

    Crown crates are just another example of ESO falling apart. You cant compare it to WoW, cuz WoW always wins...been doing so for a decade. But the latest dlc's were pathetic compared to Orsinium. One Tamriel is ridiculous, and caters to new players and alts. PvP is bland and repetitive, and the end game is only waiting for a dungeon q that you have already done hundreds of times. Unless you just love rolling alts to redo content. My main is decked out in all legendary gear with nothing to do. Huge map...waste of space. So sad

    First off I love ESO.  I tend to take breaks from it and go back every few months.  But I will no longer go back.  Lock boxes are one of those things that just take away from gaming IMO.  The trend that usually happens is that things begin to be placed in lock boxes that would have normally been attainable in other ways before lock boxes.  And the new way to get them is just the lock boxes.  I don't mind cosmetic stores at all, I will even go so far as to say that if you must have a store that is the way to go.  But when you lock things behind a gamble only method I refuse to participate in that practice.  I foresee things that would you once would have been able to purchase for extra now only being placed in these lock boxes.  As someone who subs to game no thanks.
