imageFive Essential Add-Ons for Legion (and a Few Extra!)

Now that World of Warcraft: Legion has been out a few weeks and players are once again in the ‘groove’ of the game, it’s time to talk about how to best manage your time in game to maximize your fun and to feel as if you’ve accomplished something for the day. To that end, there are several game add-ons that are easily installed and that will greatly help players of any type no matter what type of activity they’re engaged in.

I wasn't aware of the World Quest list...that is a pretty nice one... I highly recommend Handy Notes with the Legion treasures add on, helps a ton when finding boxes to get your resources up.

To me it seems like a form of cheating LOL. Isn't finding these the reward for exploration? I guess personally I'm not worried about finding them all. Just my personal preference I guess.

World Quest Tracker is the one you want for WQs. Surprised you aren't aware of it and included something else instead.

I'm aware of it but prefer World Quests List. The assertion was never made that it was the only one, simply the best. ;)

I don't use add-ons because I consider it cheating, ya bunch of cheaters. Play the game as intended or gtfo, imo.

That's right, that's your opinion. I don't use addons much but some I do like. Example is Altholic. Like being able to see if one of my alts may have something that the current toon I'm on can use.

Only add-on i use is recount. DBM is almost useless, and all of these, withblizz absorbing most add-ons already. These are what i would call add-onholic addons. I could use them or press M. Debuff, dot, and range addons are near essential for pvp.

I don't use Wow add-ons any more.  Gotten too many viruses from them.  If there was a sanctioned site that you could trust, but of course there is no such thing.

Yes I know people will try to tell me some of these sites are ok, but I have been burned by most of the them at some point in time.  Just not worth the risk.

In the almost decade I've played WoW and used addons, I've never gotten a virus from them. Nor have I heard of anyone getting one until I read your post.

How are mailbox and UI addons cheating? Are you racing someone when you are opening in game mail?

The only needed for me are: ElvUI, Altholic, AuctionMaster, BlizzMove, Handy Notes, HealBot, Postal, ... and especially for dungeons GTFO, Skada and DBM or BigWigs. And World Quest Tracker sure.

Since Wotlk using Skada. At that time few times did manual analysis (all in all guess spend as I remember 8 ours in few days just transcribing and calculating) and comparison between Reccount and Skada was in absolute favor of Skada which was completely accurate, Reccount was not at all. On big runs not so big difference, but still Skada was accurate. Never ever looked back to Reccount. But true that was at Wotlk era, after did not bother to compare, maybe now is opposite. :-)

if you knew wtf are you talking about (because you are lying just to make feel you special) you would know that addons are just a bunch of lua files that are just text, they dont execute anything for themselves

@Ozmodan, does know of what they speak. Translation, @Ozmodan is correct. I will never write a tutorial on viruses. The number one vector of infection is music lyrics. Why? Because hackers don't respect music fans. Who else don't they respect? Mod users. That is why they target them. FYI, lua script can be written virus level stuff. But don't ask me for prof. I'm not going to say look at X mod for an example of a virus. Or go to Y site for a list of mods viruses. Or read Z article to learn how to attack mod users and websites.

I support the idea that there are four types of MMO gamers: killers, achievers, explorers, and socializers. I am a huge fan of WoW, but don't play anymore. When I did, I used two mods. One to highlight harvesting nodes on the maps. The second to highlight quest zones / spawns on the map. Konfess is the patron saint of Healers, so I loved playing in groups. But I couldn't hold up a group so i could harvest some node. When I didn't use the latest raid mod, I stopped getting invited to raids. Again my belief is that these mods support the killer playstyle, and ignore or harm the other three playstyles.

I don't know, because I haven't investigated them at all. But I suspect that Handy Notes and Rarity diminish the experience of achievers. Again, I don't know Rarity, but I do know MMO loot drop statistics. Most drops happen across a variety of mobs, zones, and players. When you do a sucess calculation for a subset of mobs, zone, and player, your result becomes meaningless. I farmed an item drop for two month, before I decided to just buy it off the Auction House. My sense of achievement would have been greater if I had looted the item. But an inaccurate mod telling me that I am 65% closer to reaching my goal would not. Especially if two other players in the zone had already achieved the loot drop, without the mod knowing.

Is TomTom a detriment to explorers, and socializers? Will a play ask in chat, "Can someone help me find W underwater cave, please?" Those who don't use TomTom will.

I have suspected this for some time now. Why do so many players only stick around for a short while and get board? Access to so much outside information. A mod that either drags or rushes the player through content. Wikis that provide all the answers and limit the need for social interaction between players. I almost want to say, a developer must now limit or control the flow of information of their game.

    Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven
Boy: Why can't I talk to Him?
Mom: We don't talk to Priests.
As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.

    For anyone who interested:

    http://roblox.wikia.com/wiki/Lua_virus

"How do I get a Lua virus?

Almost all viruses come from Free Models or Plugins. This is to ensure the people who make the viruses can get away with the malicious actions. Viruses can also come from Free Models that you cannot find in the Build or ROBLOX studio applications."

They put hours and hours into game design so players can skip all of it with add-on helpers and trackers.

    Wonderful.
How does an add-on that, lets say, tracks World Quests in a more convenient and easier to navigate UI allow you to skip doing World Quests?

They dont. Just because the add-on tracks the World Quests you still have to do them yourself. The add-on in no way lets you skip them.

    Your complaint makes no sense.

I usually try add ons for a few days but then realize that it is not in the intended game design,so then i consider it cheating.
Blizzard does support addons, since itself links to addon kits however it more or less shows how shallow a business they are to offer whatever it takes for profit, even if ruining a game's integrity.
Problem is that i don't know their actual UI team or opinions on all matters, idk if they are too lazy, too cheap and prefer players to make addons rather than make a better UI themselves,i simply don't know and neither does anyone else.

I do know that ever single game i have ever played comes with a EULA that always talks about not allowing players to change the game with any outside programs and such.Well rewriting or simply writing  new commands/code to perform improved or new tasks would be most certainly a form of breaking the EULA.
Having just read the most recent EULA,the ONLY acceptable change or addition to game is that that has been specifically approved by Blizzard. This site and players do not know what blizzard has supported or approved,so we should be careful when talking about scripts and changing commands/code to get treatment that OTHER players may not have in their game.In other words, there is a section that talks about advantages other players do not have,i am not sure if just having "access"to them is the same thing as MANY players would simply not know of all add-ons,therefor you WOULD most certainly have an advantage over another player. You cannot make any excuse to not being an advantage or you simply would not use it ...period.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Xyiremod - totally essential imo. I might be biased though. Helps a lot with world pvp situational awareness and amusement.

I looked into the Elviu UI mod and got like 100 results (on Curse).  I have no idea which one is the main one that I need to change the look.  I looked at a lot of them but any help would be appreciated.

I would suggest installing it from the official site below and then using WoWMatrix to keep it updated. :)
