Woven: The little game that SHOULD...

I stumbled across this game on my own with no advertisements or articles in the gaming press (at least none that I visit).   It seems unique and while it might not might be the type of game I would normally be looking for , it seems to be the type of  game that Kickstarter and Crowdfunding were really meant to support.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1355836783/woven-solve-puzzles-by-reknitting-your-character/description

They are doing it the right way.  They have a fully playable demo and set a reasonable goal ($94k) and timeline (Nov 2017) to get it finished.  They are selling a pledge with the full game for a mere $10.

At this point they are a little under halfway though the Kickstarter but only have raised $17k with 253 backers.

When I look at the other, repetitive games with grandiose and obviously unrealistic promises that raise millions... and are pushed by the gaming media... it just makes me sad.

Anyhow, I guess my point is to maybe bring a little more awareness to a small title like this so that it would succeed or fail on it's merits and not simple lack of exposure.

Looks like they gained $1k but still far from goal

Another thousand raised but still way short of where they need to be.

I agree it looks to be done the right way,not asking or trying to get multiple millions and actually having a playable demo is perfect as well. They also keep it realistic because i notice they are using very cheap models/mesh but make them look decent with certain types of pixel like textures.

How FUN the game actually is depends on each individual,i doubt is a game for me but yes it seems to be more in line with what KS was meant for ,which is NOT the big rich money bags just trying to leech off naive gamer's.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I think selling the full game for $10 pledge during a kickstarter project likely hurts more than it helps.
I mean, it's great that they want to get the game out to everyone, but I suspect alot of people settle on the lowest tier that gets them a game copy.  I think this a good example of how nice guys finish last.

They have a demo available to help people decide if they want to support the game; so, giving the game for so low just feels counterproductive to the funding goal.

I think there is some validity to that BUT their average pledge is still $67

I think they were hoping for more interest (obviously) so that the earlybird packages would get taken and then the base game package is $17

    Latest Kickstarter update:

During the Kickstarter for Woven, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about controller support. Before we get into that, let’s first talk a bit about how we came up with our current control scheme.

We want Woven to be a relaxing game where you can explore at your own pace. We want Stuffy to be a free spirit that decides for himself if he wants to go somewhere or not. In Woven you control Glitch, and Stuffy follows... that is, if he isn’t distracted by butterflies or nice flowers!

For this reason, we ended up with controls that come close to a classic and click adventure control scheme. We would love to be able to please everyone, but our primary goal is staying true to the experience we want our players to have when enjoying Woven! Since you control Glitch, and not Stuffy, we don’t want the players to steer the duo directly with the arrows or a WASD set up, as this would defeat the purpose of giving Stuffy his very own and unique personality.

And now, let's talk about the main event for today's update: Controller Support!

We are proud to announce that from this moment on Woven will support controllers! We have been hard at work to make the controller experience equally as easy to use as the mouse controls. We are very excited about being able to offer you, our fans, the possibility to now play Woven with a controller... that is, if you want to! At any time, you can seamlessly switch between the mouse input and the controller. If you pick up the controller, the game will automatically switch to the controller input, and vice versa!

Please remember that all the controls currently implemented for Woven are still very much in Pre-Alpha testing, so they can still change drastically! We are listening to all of your feedback given, so please let us know what you think of this new option!

If you have the Pre-Alpha build on Steam, then that will automatically update today. If you have the DRM-free Pre-Alpha build, then you must download it again, which you can do right here

And that’s it for today’s update. We look forward to reading your messages below!

Seems like a neat idea they have and I hope they are able to succeed.  I like that it appears to be very family friendly(read: safe for young kids) and have more of a thinking and exploring approach versus the wave of new kids games that want them to grind and buy microtransactions.

Who the hell thinks its a good idea to advertise a SINGLE PLAYER, KICKSTARTER game in an MMO forum?
  • Slapshot1188Slapshot1188 Member LegendaryPosts: 17,724
    Advertise?

Maybe I thought it was a good idea as the vast majority of people who play MMORPGs also play....  OTHER GAMES!!!  I know that must be an earth shattering concept but believe it or not, we do.  In fact we play a lot of other video/computer game.  If you really want to blow your mind...  This site actually has lots of forms for some of them!

New article on PC Gamer.   Looks like there is no backup plan.  If they do not fund they will shelve the game.  For now at least.

They are at $30k raised so far.

They need an investor or major publisher to help them.  This game looks really good and very promising for children so long as they keep it clean.  I can see my daughter really enjoying this.

Yeah.  It's a shame that other guys hop on Kickstarter with claims of creating these ambitious games that would take 10 times the money to complete (if they could even do so) and get funded... while a little creative title with a realistic scope gets over looked...
