It's a new zone! And earlier than expected! ArenaNet originally promised Guild Wars 2 players a new Living Story update every three months, but Rising Flames and Ember Bay came ahead of schedule, just two months after we got Out of the Shadows and Bloodstone Fen. Was it worth the wait... er, non-wait? Well, kinda-sorta-wait?

It's a good map. Not one of my favorites for exploration, but it is a lot better than the Heart of Thorns maps. I guess you can chalk that up to me not personally being a fan of the volcanic motif. They have a nice fertile region to help break up the monotony though.

Being able to play in a group without being grouped or having an option either way is one of GW2 strong points which I prefer over solo instances.

The Living Story is something I'll try and if I don't like it I won't play at all. Some of them I do like, find very addictive, and do a play through with every alt. Also as long as they don't get to carried away with those red circles on the ground I can be happy without all the 'good kitty' mechanics.

The last paragraph sums up my feelings appropriately.
I am not really sure what to make of GW2 anymore.

Being a former fansite admin for GW1 (and one of the first 300 people to alpha test it almost 13 years ago) I still feel strongly attached to the series and probably always will. But somehow GW2 has lost its status as my "main MMO" long time ago.

It's a great game, but for some reason it fails to make me "want it".
Same goes for the recent update. I was SO pumped to revisit one of the most iconic GW1 locations. I kinda like how much the story advanced in just one free patch (GRRM would have needed 5 books to advance his story as much).

Still, after 2 days I have seen and done it all and I can't even get myself to log in for the daily quests.
I guess another expansion announcement will bring back my desire and motivation to play GW2 full swing. Until then, it'll just entertain me for a few hours per month.

I didn't play GW2 a lot, but yes this was the best aspect, something that all the mmo should implement!

You gotta have a slightly different mind set when playing gw2 to fully enjoy it. Me personally, I'm in the mind set of wanting to 100% everything so I'm compelled to always go after the best and most fanciest of stuff no matter how difficult it may be to acquire. This has made me travel, do, and see things I never knew the game even had or normally wouldn't explore. When added as a whole, it provides countless hours of content that many others "in-game" are also aiming for as well.

However one thing, no one as a gamer should feel ashamed to admit is that; they are "gamers." There is no rule anywhere saying you have to stick with one game and one game only. Or that you should only play mmorpgs. I dip into anything that peaks my interest, it just so happens I've decided to dedicate more time into gw2 then other games currently out. I will always have my reasons, just like everyone else.

The more variety in content the better.  It's common sense that all content isn't gonna appeal to everyone, but the more there is, the more options there are for everyone... and who knows, I might like it after I actually try the new area.

They can take variety to far and water down all the content becomes even more bland than it is.

My young nephew writes more compelling stories than this company and if they had hired him instead the story might be worth playing.

The zone I have not played. Hope it is better than the last ones released. Let us know if it is firey fun or just another Hindenburg.

GW2 is dead, end of story. Servers have been downgraded and that new megaserver stuff doesnt show the the decreased population, but the financial reports do and GW2 is earning less and less money.

I still grab a few dailies and do some harvesting, one or two holiday events, maybe play new content when it hits for a bit, but that's it. I don't play it as my be all MMO.

GW2 was amazing for 3 months, but never logged in again after that. Didn't help that the content updates for a year after launch were all exclusively gimmicky holiday events with nothing but pointless minigames.

I don't think you understand what the word "dead" means.

If its not number one its dead, just don't say that to the 100s of other MMOs that aren't. Kappa123 Dansgame

The new zone is pretty well done and its so much better then the original Ring of Fire. BUT... the content on it and on all the other new maps is just lackluster. The events are fun and cool, but after 5 times finishing them... you know I will wait 6 months to come back again.
The events and meta events on such huge map are far from enough. It needs nearly 3 times more content to keep me for longer.

Nope...done with GW2. I've had it with volcanos, lava, etc. in games.

Thanks mmorpg.com for reporting the stuff this game does.  I remember for the first few years we didn't hear much about GW2 even though they did something major every 3 months.  What other companies sell as expansions, GW2 calls them living world events.  They actually change areas to suit the event.  It becomes a part of the living world itself and soon as the event is over it changes back to normal.  Hands down the best gaming studio right now.

Mike O Rielly is that you?

Because anet is one of the absolute WORST developers out there.

With Colin Blowhanson finally being shown the door (oops... i meant he left for other oppurtunities of his own free will) they are finally trying to turn this sinking ship around.

Under Blowhanson they NEVER communicated with their players, NEVER told them anything, NEVER spoke to them, and NEVER listened to them and the game went straight down the toilet.

At least under MO's direction they reversed that crap and the first thing he did was an reddit AMA to show that he wasn't like Blowhanson he was actually willing to TALK and LISTEN to the players that made them rich.

It's better than what most other MMOs give in an update and it doesn't cost anything extra. The only other MMO without a subscription that is putting out better semi-regular content is ESO, but you have to sub or pay for the extra stuff.

That's enough for me to completely disregard the opinion of a writer who seems to be burnt out on GW2 in the first place.

This is the kind of biased article that just invites the haters to have a party.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Even if I grant you that Colin's Anet was one of the worst developers (it was not, though it certainly had problems), MO's Anet has quickly been proving itself one of the better developers on the market. The difference is night and day. Mike O'Brien is a god.

I mean, I understand your feelings and all, but seriously, in 4 months, there were 3 articles about you being bored on GW2 and the in-betweens with things like "GW2 may never have a positive quarter again."

I'm kind of getting bored of you writing about you getting bored of GW2.

Write about games that interests you. Go back to GW2 6 months later then play it and write something about it. Not like on June 28, August 8, October 4, and almost every article in between written by you you having something negative in it.

What B2P game has constant updates every 3-5 months without making players pay extra?  Dude you are like the person who called Jessica Alba ugly because she had crooked toes.  Noone cares about the toes dude and noone cares about the bullcrap you just pulled out of someone's bunghole trying to make Anet look bad.

I left these forums for a quite a while because reading the borderline retarded (I use the term borderline because I don't want to offended any actually retarded people or for the politically correct crew "mentally challenged") rants about how some game sucks. I have to say that I enjoyed my time away and would not have looked back if it wasn't for respecting the knowledge of some of the patrons of the hardware forums here, and looking for some sound advice.

One of the things that I have learned and feel the need to share is that if you find yourself unhappy with a game (and I don't mean with just GW2, but any game) that it is completely and fully your fault. 100% of the time. People choose to be unhappy and then they choose to put the blame on other things rather then themselves. I used to actually try to argue with people over things and it just doesn't make sense. Why do I care if someone else is happy? Screw them. Unhappy people are just unhappy people. They aren't a problem that needs solving, they have a problem that THEY need to figure out.

I wish that Anet, and all developers, would just work at making their game enjoyable by their interpretation. Screw the whiners and the snivelers. Quit sacrificing their own common sense to try and drag up the bottom line by appealing to the noisy, unhappy crowd.

So yeah, if you're unhappy, good luck with that lifestyle. Please don't ruin if for the rest of us.

    Bye

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
