So yesterday a new format of 10ftc was shown now dedicated to specific topics and a lot more footage to show, a lot of information on characters and customization, and mostly showing off  faces, all the details and their animations.

This video is only the footage cut from the full thing:

The actual full thing with the Q&A and discussion is on this video.

Only the hair as they said really needs to be put as par with the rest and some bits on the facial animation felt a bit canny valley. But comparing this to how the characters looked last year on the Morrow Tour and the Bishop's Speech, far better!

Its interesting to hear about their Tier 0 (1,2,3) level of detail. Where even the HEAD of Mark Hamill is made out of 40.000 ! polygons and they scanned nearly 80 different facial expressions with 50 cameras. That they have around 340 speaking roles/individual characters in Squadron 42.

I would like to see how the blending and morphing of the 9 male/female character avatar heads is done so you can adjust it to the type of face you want.

    Have fun

Uncanny valley is there because the showcase is a fixed looped facial animations on a visible rigid face. If they had cropped everything to just show the moving part (like for the mouth), the only thing that tell you it is CGI is the texture quality.

Once they put the head on an animated body for cutscenes, their won't be as much of a "robotic" effect to the head talking.

The most interesting part to me, beside graphics, is the news that they greatly reduced the memory footprints for these very detailed heads.

Top notch work, considering they can get hold of th performance issues this could mean a mmorpg looking as good as single player games!
