Over the last two years, RGB customization has become the most dominant trend in gaming peripherals. Today, we take a look at Corsair’s MM800 Polaris hard mouse pad. It’s big, RGB enabled, and seamlessly pairs with other Corsair devices, but does it succeed in justifying its $59.99 MSRP?

I've been using a Razer Destructor hard surface mouse pad for about five years now.  It's absolutely the perfect surface for every game that I enjoy playing.  It also came with a reinforced carrying case that keeps it clean and protected when I take it on business trips.

But lights on my mousepad?  I guess it's just me, but I'm in my 30's, I game in my home office and no one ever sees my computer, so honestly I don't care if anything has a single light except for the letters on my keyboard and they can be white for all I care.

If you need a mousepad for your mouse to work, then your mouse is defective and you need a new mouse, not a new mousepad. The exception is if the surface you want to use the mouse on is reflective, transparent, or unusually homogeneous so as to mess up normal mouse lasers.

If you get a mousepad for the sake of wrist comfort, that's fine. But this product doesn't look like it's built for that. Rather, it looks like the lighting is the main point of the product.

lighting on matching mouse pad, mouse and keyboard is a must for good gaming.

I'd never want lights on my mousepad. Too much distraction for the eyes while playing games. The keyboard makes sense, you need to see the keys sometimes in a low-light setting. I had the lights turned off on my Razer mouse for the longest time, that's not really needed either. But doesn't seem quite as bad as a mousepad with lights.

Pretty dumb to have a hub like that on a mousepad. Blocks your own cord for gaming... they should have made that removable.

"Given my own preconceptions, the idea of a $59.99 mouse pad seemed immediately outrageous."

" It looks great and drips quality, but, returning to the original question, does it justify its price tag? That depends entirely on how much you value the extra flash."

    Did you pay for it?

I like a good mousepad because it gives me a consistent, smooth sliding action and reliable mouse tracking.

Will a mouse work on the top of my desk, or my lap, or anyplace else? Yes. But not anywhere near as nice as it works on my mousepad.

That being said. I don't need lights or anything on my mousepad. I have an old Ratzpad, it's ... getting close to 10 years old now that I think about it. Best thing I've ever used with a mouse.

@volgore No, this was a review sample. I love rgb but $59.99 would have priced this out for me personally.

I'll wait for the Logitech version.

Prolly because I already own G910 Orion and G700s and comfy with LGS

I turn all things that light up off - including any LEDS on my monitors.

    Not for me
I generally agree but I turn on the lights on my keyboard when I play in a dark room, and sometimes I even use a color theme to show me the key-bindings in a new game. Lights on a keyboard can be useful at times. On a mouse, not very much and on a mousepad it is just silly.

Then again, I use a trackball, I am way faster with that then a mouse and I don't need any specific thing to have it on, not even a flat surface.

I agree. I usually go for comfort and extra buttons. If it happens to have some cool lights or designs. Great, a bonus. But certainly not important.

I need lights on keyboard or else I cannot see what I am typing in a dark room. Same goes for my multi button mouse need lights but mouse pad ...hmm.
