UPDATE: While Brevik has stated this morning that he personally is not working on a Diablo game, that doesn't actually negate a Diablo game being announced at Blizzcon.
Over the weekend, the rumor mill kicked into high gear with a report that originated with BlizzardWatch.com after a series of Twitter posts by Dave Brevik seemingly hinting at big happenings for Blizzcon that will be prominently featuring Diablo's 20th anniversary. Speculators have torn into an image posted by Brevik made after he and Diablo co-developer Bill Roper spent time at the Blizzard campus in Southern California.

Probably it will never happen because wow is still changing but... It would be lovely to play new warcraft... With whole storyline since first game through all events from other up to new one...
Thanks

not sure if this is sarcasm or not, david brevik tried this and it was a colossal disaster that destroyed his reputation
If they experiment further, we're either we're going to see them develop titles for online genres they haven't tapped into yet (like racing, fighting, or survival) or we're going to see more single-player efforts from them (which they have shown interest in with past canceled titles).
An open world RPG seems like a logical step for them. And hell, maybe Diablo is the right universe for that.
Got Blizzard to thanks for that. When D3 does not pull in much money in for them to do anything and update it other then systems.
Sadly the blizzcon schedule does not talk nor hints of any time frame for any new announcements sadly. what would be nice is a Diablo 3 full expansion. none of this free update crap theyve been doin- you get what you pay for- nothing.
The thing I would think is most fitting for a 20 year anniversary game would be Warcraft 4. Some of us have been waiting for a proper Warcraft 4 for nearly 15 years now.
It would be a great opportunity to breath some more life into World of Warcraft. They release Warcraft 4 with lots of in-game goodies for World of Warcraft and either bring new players in, or bring some older players back.
The mentality that lead to them building games like Overwatch ( which was a salvage operation form Titan ), Hearthstones, and Heroes, was because they set themselves a challenge: to see if they could make a fun, addictive and successful game without a huge budget. That doesn't reflect their overall philosophy though. Blizzard think they can make ANY game, at ANY scale, and they've proved that they can. The only game that hasn't gone quite so well, critically speaking, was Diablo 3. Based on how Blizzard react to such black marks, I think it's safe to assume that whatever they're planning for Diablo... it's not going to be small like Hearthstone.
Wait... you think the best game for Blizzard's 25th anni and Diablo's 20th anni would be a Warcraft game? Colour me amused.
David Breivik tweeting that he's consulting on a new game that pushes ARPGs further, after he was pictured at Blizzard HQ, suspiciously close to a Blizzcon where they'll be celebrating arguably the most important ARPG in history... well... that's not crazy talk.
It is funny some people can deem valid to disregard whole idea/genre on merit of one specific game tanking ( btw for completely different reasons )
Good that they didnt cancel all First Person Shooters when doom 2 didnt sell as good as expected...lol
