Some of my best gaming memories are from the live events held in 'Everquest'. There was a premium server at the height of the game's popularity (can't recall the name but I think it was $30/month) and live events were held every week if memory serves.

I do wish they would make a resurgence. It breathes life into an otherwise static setting.

Live Events are something that could work if offered in a cash shop (if the demand is there etc.)

UO tried that back in 2003-2004. It's two biggest hurdles were that they were  charging $40 for a service that used to be free and that it was limited to weddings, birthdays, and memorials.

Would like to see some dev offer something similar but with more of a quest or scripted event focus.

I remember doing live events in Asheron's Call. Not only did it further along the story but it also gave the players a chance to get once in a lifetime loot drops. One of my favorite Live Events in Asheron's Call was the destruction of a town called Yanshi during the Harbinger Event. This event lead to another event where the developers controlled 2 bosses by the name of Marine and Gaerlan. Gaerlan would appear at random locations and someone golems for the players to attack. THough some of us did attack Martine and Gaerlan. The problem with todays MMO's is that some of them have way to many servers and not enough developers to have such events.

"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"
