Nintendo Co.’s long-awaited new gaming platform will get its first reveal Thursday.
At 11 p.m. local time, the Kyoto-based company will release a three-minute video on the machine on its website. In a tweet, Nintendo reminded people that NX is the code name for the product, asking them to “please take a look.”
Underscoring the keen interest in details about NX, shares of Nintendo surged as much as 4.6 percent at midday in Tokyo on Thursday, adding more than $1 billion in market value in their biggest rally in a month. The stock is up more than 50 percent this year, mostly buoyed by Nintendo’s shift to embracing smartphone games.
“The reveal comes relatively late for a game console that is slated to go on sale in March,” said Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Ace Research Institute in Tokyo. “It has to be sufficiently different from Wii U and deliver on Nintendo’s promise of a completely new concept device.”
Speculation over the device has obsessed gamers and financial analysts alike. In a research report last week, Macquarie Securities analyst David Gibson estimated the device will cost $250 and likely disappoint in terms of revolutionary features. But he wrote that a strong line-up of gaming titles will help to fuel solid demand at launch. He estimates Nintendo will sell 2.5 million units in its first month and an additional 10.6 million units by March 2018.
“NX is a different concept gaming machine,” Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said in April. “It will allow for a whole new way to experience hardware and software together.”

The Nintendo 3DS XL already costs around 200 bucks new.
If they sell the Switch, including dock for just 250 bucks it would mean Nintendo would use the outdated Maxwell based Tegra X1 SoC and no second SoC in the dock.
I rather pay 399,- for the Switch and it having the Pascal based Tegra X2 SoC with a second one in the dock for SLI.
Personally I just hate these so called self-professed analysts. The Wii and WiiU were 299,- at launch, without game. The WiiU Premium+Nintendo land game bundle was 349,- at launch.
Unless Nintendo plans to sell the Switch in bundles with and without dock, I think we are looking at 349,- including dock with a bundled game ( Zelda or Mario ).
